Microsoft, following a 4 year cycle for its consoles, will, I think, probably announce their new console this year at the E3. I'm pretty sure about this. What do you think will be in that new system?

For me I think they will stick with standard controllers (don't get me wrong X360 controllers are the most ergonomics controlers), I think they will focus a lot on the media center aspect of the Xbox (if it is still called Xbox) and maybe allow connectivity with the PC (Shared hard drive? no that would be too awesome...). Of course the main focus will be again Xbox live and improving this service to a new level (intersystem play for casual game like UNO or other games that don't depend so much on your controller).

Here tell me what you think will be on the next microsoft console

stop smoking crack... this will not happen.

Do you realize how much money they spent developing the 360? Don't expect a new gaming system any time soon.

Omg that is what we call an investment... Why would it change something if the X360 cost a lot of money to develop, their game division is in the green cuz of the boatload of great game that released in 2007... Plus this would be the best timing since the PS3 is starting to get its share of great games

I don't think they'll announce the next one till atLEAST next year. It would suck if they did sooner because I've finally started building up my game collection and just got LIVE like 2 months ago. i need time to enjoy all this greatness before i have to go spend money on another console + new games.

I'm considering more and more that after this gen I am not going to buy a console, except for probably Nintendo's and beef up my pc and hook it up to my hdtv. PC games are cheaper and they get all of the 360's excellent games, including Viva Pinata, GH3, Oblivion, etc.

Yeah well PC games is regaining its glory after the great titles we saw this year and especially the one who show the power of the PC over the console (Crysis). Well my computer is more than decent right with a e6600, 8800GT and 2gigs of ram, but I am more then eager to see what the next gen of system will be like.

2010 at the earliest. Even that seems early to me... I mean there hasn't been that much improvement in graphics cards or processors that the tech is even ready for true next gen. Much less at price points that will appeal to consumers...

Although depending upon the format war and a few other variables I think we might see a few "new" versions of the 360 before an entirely new console comes along.

I think I wasn't very clear as I was saying they would ANNOUNCE it, not release it. It should be released Q42009 or Q2 2010.

As for improvement in graphic cards, there has been A LOT of improvement recently in graphic cards, remeber that the PS3 has a slightly modified7800GTX and that the 8k serie of Nvidia beat the crap out of the 7k gen very baddly because of its unified architecture. As for CPU,intel new architecture should be released in 2009 which mean that it would be ready for this new console. (Or maybe they will put the 80-core chip Intel is developping? hehe no just kidding but intel is still developping and 80 core chip for those who didnt knew)

Yeah I'm saying announce in 2010... release in 2012. At the earliest.

And sure there are new processors and cards that have more power etc... but the cost of manufacturing them right now completely negates any possibility of them being included in a console... unless your console is a computer. lol

agree to disagree I suppose.

well my 8800GT cost me 270$ shipped, since console are sold under the cost of production that wouldnt be so expensive

what's a console anyways? A specialized mobo, a cpu, some ram (hope they put a decent amount in the next gen) a graphic card and a 2.5 inch hard drive? I can make you a very good computer for less then the inital ps3 cost sony

after thinking about it, I can't really believe that the 360 was announced after the third year in the lifecycle of the Xbox. If they announced a new console now it would not only be jumping the gun, it would be firing it at themselves... it seems the like the 360 is still pretty new..

They are going the OSX route, releasing upgrades like the elite, there will be another upgrade before the next CONSOLE, which will be not for another 4 years. Xbox was ditched due to nVidia dispute.

I do agree that the 360 still seems pretty new and that's why I rehiterated saying it might be announced in Q1-Q2 2009, but you have to remeber that thefirst xbox was more or less made topenetrate the market to make room for the next one.

Releasing a system in 2009 or 2010 would be stupid. They want to pump as much money out of the console as possible. Plus you run the risk of being another Dreamcast where you release to soon, and everyone dumps the system for the improved Playstation or Nintendo one. Microsofts gaming division JUST became profitable, they would not spend millions developing a new system now. Maybe E3 09 they announce to release in 2011, 2012. I would say Q3 2011 being the absolute earliest.

Don't expect a new console until at the earlier the 2010 Holdays, that being said don't expect MS to make any sort of announcments about it until late 2009 or early/mid 2010 depending on the actual release. MS seems very focused on the present right now and I don't think a new console is going to help drive their 360 sales in 08. MS marketing is all about hpe and using that for momentum to swing big sales numbers. Hyping a new console to early will only decrease hype on the 360 and its games and eventually decrease hype on the newer Xbox console if they hype it to early.

That's my 2 cents anyways.

Quite possibly, and more likely, an updated console rather than a next gen machine. For example, Live tv, internet, keyboard/mouse, blu-ray(maybe), wi-fi, bluetooth, etc.

I really hope microsoft doesn't come out with a new console anytime soon. I DO, however, hope that they make some major updates with the current 360. Mainly the media. Wi-Fi would be nice, bigger HDD's all-around. Possibly a Blu-Ray add-on. Internet Browser would be nice (with keyboard). A shared hard drive with your PC, as mentioned above, would also be nice.

No way. They will not announce anything until 360 sales start to decline. If they announce it too early, sales will drop because people will not buy a system that has been announced as on it's way out the door.

Think about it. People are STILL eating up the 360. If MS comes out and says "we're making a new system" who is gonna shell out $400 for the 360 when they can just wait and get the next one? I know I wouldn't bother.
