Now, before someone says "this belongs in the pinned topic about broken 360's", I already asked there. No one answers questions there usually, just more people complaining. So please, just answer me. :) I was wondering if it is possible to buy a NEW 360 at a place that returns them when they are opened. Like, for instance, costco. Take the new 360 OUT of its box, and put my old, (well-cared for) broken 360 in the new one's box, and return the new box with my old 360 in it to the store. For a full refund, of course. Will this work? Please, tell me somebody has tried it. It may be dishonest and cruel, but so is Microsoft when they won't fix their own P.O.S. for free. Are the serial numbers attached to each individual box, or is the box tied to each individual receipt? Thanks for reading, looking forward to replies. :D

I wouldn't take that risk. Every console I've purchased since the PS2 has had the serial number barcode scanned when I purchased it, so it would be relatively simple for them to open the box and see that you are trying to defraud them. If you don't mind risking arrest and prosecution I say go for it. I really would recommend you just pay the $140 to have your console fixed.

Arrest? Anything under 500 dollars, I don't think they can arrest you for. A simple excuse of "Oh, I've got 3 of these, I must have boxed the wrong one." would do, I think. :) And, I'd say you're right about the serial #, but my flap(where the serial number on the console itself is displayed through the box) is still un-opened on my box. I purchased mine at Target, and they only scanned the box itself when I purchased it, not the console.

What your proposing is against the law and you can be arrested for it.  Most jurisdictions only require a theft of over $5 to $10 dollars depending on how the theft occured for the crime to be consiered a felony.
