I wouldn't take that risk. Every console I've purchased since the PS2 has had the serial number barcode scanned when I purchased it, so it would be relatively simple for them to open the box and see that you are trying to defraud them. If you don't mind risking arrest and prosecution I say go for it. I really would recommend you just pay the $140 to have your console fixed.bdhoffArrest? Anything under 500 dollars, I don't think they can arrest you for. A simple excuse of "Oh, I've got 3 of these, I must have boxed the wrong one." would do, I think. :) And, I'd say you're right about the serial #, but my flap(where the serial number on the console itself is displayed through the box) is still un-opened on my box. I purchased mine at Target, and they only scanned the box itself when I purchased it, not the console.
