Yes, the towel trick is one of the many wonders of the world. Does anyone know how wrapping your 360 in 3 towels gets it working or who figured out you could do that?

What's the theory behind this? How does wrapping your 360 in towels help with the 3 red lights? I thought the 3 red lights were from overheating? So unless I am wrong (which I may be) how does trapping more heat in your 360 help things?

that has to be one of the most random ways to fix anything elextrical, it overheated, so lets overheat it a little more, see if thatll fix it...oh damn it does!

The towel trick melts all of the solder in your 360 to help it get reset onto the wires.

The RRoD, I'm guessing, is caused by the leads in the GPU melting out of place. The towel trick somehow melts them back into place for a while.

The towels build up heat inside the console. That reflows the solder below the GPU. I thought it was a joke when I read it, but turns out it's true.

I done this trick before on my 360, it lasted for about a week, and the 360 got the red ring back, but you got to be careful, since this can melt the cpu to the point of not working. I never had a console break on me, but the 360 is the first console that broke on me, and I almost lost the warranty for opening the console and vaccuming it. Microsoft was very smart of extending the warranty to 3 years and refunding their consumer.

Don't do the towel crap because it only damages the console further. Ah this is great I'm gonna get a refurbished sent back that had someone damage its components even further...joeamis

How do you figure? If it is broken, and doesn't work. Then after doing this "trick" it works perfectly fine, I don't see how it could damage it more.

I'm actually trying the same thing, I have 1 red light, so I have to pay like $110 to get it repaired so I want to get 3RL to get it repaired for free.

Yes, the 'Wrap your RROD 360 with 3 towels and letting it heat for awhile' will allow your 360 to work again. As some say once done it will last along time and may prevent it from happening in the future, other say that they did it and it only lasts a few hours or 2-3 days. I say that the more you do it on the same console, the easier it'll be for it to break.

The towel trick is exactly that - a "quick" fix and temporary. I tried and it lasted about a week then I just sent it in for repair. The big scheme with this many are doing is using the towel trick and then taking their crap systems up to the local gamestop/video game store and trading it in to upgrade to an Elite. This lets them avoid the total cost of a new system and the the long wait for a real repair. Warn your friends to NEVER to buy a used/refurb system from these stores..
