A better way to fix the three red lights is this: Right after your 360 freezes, quickly unplug it and put it into the microwave for 5-6 minutes (btw if your microwave has a "popcorn" setting, use that because it works best).Goldeneyemaster:lol:!!!!
[QUOTE="SpinoRaptor"]You can also use a hairdryer to cool your 360. chaoscougar1
i prefer fire personally
It is beleived that some of the hardware failure is due to the overheating of certian parts and melting inside to move those parts, and wrapping a towel around it will remelt them and put them back in place, or something or other. However, I always discovered that things that melted never do good reheated. All the 360s have a year warranty.. just send it in. Mine was gone for only 2 weeks for repairs.. now works soooooooooo flawlessly. Used to freeze everytime I played. Now it never does.Cellienthey have 3 months, launch 360s had a year
HAHHAHAHHAHA OMG This is the stupidest thing I ever heard!!!!
Please don't try this!!! You are just blocking your air vents. WTF "wrap it in a hot towel" hahahahhaha!!!! Anyone who understands how computers work or anyone who has built one... or anyone with common sense would just laugh at this stupid suggestion.
hahahahha.... just pleast don't do it!!!
I've had my 360 since launch and I've never had a problem... so plz just listen don't do it just send it in for repair.
Hasn't anyone read the Hitchhikers Trilogy? The Towel is the key to our very existance!! Gawsh! Some of you folks really don't know where your towel is, that's for sure. SilV3RSixI thought it was 42
For some reason I am inclined to believe that that is not real. How could wrapping a hot object around an already hot object make it cooler? Two lefts don't make a right.stoutladAhh, but THREE lefts do! So if your 360 overheats you should wrap it in a hot towel, set it on the stove and light it on fire! RIGHT?!?!??!RIGHT!!??!!??! DooD seriuslee my frend has a cuzin taht knows a guy who dated this gurl that owns a PC store and they had this guy working there that heard from his sisters best friend that her boyfriend TOTALLY tried this and it worked!!! Jesus christ kids, think a LITTLE on your own huh? Just a bit? A smidge?

Wow proof from a forum??? hahahaha
This solution reminds me of towlie from southpark
Sure, the towel works sometimes, but there are other(far less moronic)Ā alternatives. Obviously, if your solder is melting inside the case, you need to find a way to fix it without opening the case and voiding the warranty, which would explain the "Hot Towel" fiasco. The problem lies in that the odds of generating enough heat to melt metal back into its original position may not be enough to do it sure-fire. So in turn, you need more heat to get those little chips and wires back into their factory positioned place. So save your towels for showering.
Throw it in the fireplace. Yeah, you heard me. That's the only way to undoubtedlyĀ get just enough heat to melt it all back together. I mean, come on, the microwave? That's just stupid. That will only fry the electronics...Let's be smart here.
Otherwise, if you think it could be a voltage short and not a soldering issue, you need to do a voltage test. Most people will not have an Voltometer on hand, so a good home test is to stand in a half full (Optimism!) bathtub, plug in your 360, and gently, GENTLY (As to not disturb the wires) place it submerged in the water. You would think instant death, right? Wrong! It's the AMPERAGE, not the VOLTAGE that can hurt you. And since you're not testing AMPERAGE, you should be okay! Good luck!

Hey man.. I am telling you... I just did it. Don't use a wet towel. I think this is the major issue.... When a 360 overheats, two red lights come on. You let it cool, and no problem. When 3 red lights come on its a general hardware failure. If you purposefully overheat it, maybe it tricks the CPU into believing the only problem was a heat one, so when you let it cool, and try to turn it on again, no problem. What I am trying to figure out, is what the actual problem is. The thing seems to work fine. Sure the red lights come on again eventually, but I have done the towel trick like 3 times now, with three successes. The machine boots up, and I can play any game, Xbox Live works fine, no problems with media streaming, I have sound.... Nothing. So whats the problem???
This method does work, however it is just a temporary method. Your 360 will continue to get worse and eventually die. I suggest you use the towel trick and then sell it to someone while it still works or trade it in and buy a new one.
As for how to do it, just look it up on youtube, there are plenty of videos on it.Ā

i think it has to do with the saudering in there. it gets loosened, the towel trick melts it back into place (f0r a while)Please Log In to post.
