Thinking about getting one of the new slim ones in January. Does it make sense for me to do this now? There have been a lot of rumors about when the next gen systems will be out. I don't want to buy one in January and then have the next gen systems come out next Christmas, if that's going to happen I would rather wait a year. I've never owned an xbox, but I really want to get into Halo and some other games. I currently only own a Wii which I love, but doesn't have some of the more popular games that are exculsive to PS3 and Xbox. Any buying tips? I might try to get a bundle on Black Friday. Let me know what you think.

Microsoft claim that the xbox 360 will last until 2015 (or so i've read). So if they're being honest you have a good few years of fun left to be had. I own the new slim model and it's very good (don't get the 4gb model though!). It's not whisper quiet, but it's far off. (ps3 slim is much quieter) But hey I love my xbox, and you will too if you buy one.

I guess now would be a good time to get it lols. Besides, the old original xbox v1 was discontinued in 2006 and was released in 2001. They'll probably sell the xbox 360s still but maybe sell them refurbished, but if your to late you can always buy one from ebay or buy.com.

There is no way this is even remotely true. Microsoft is banking on Kinect so we're looking at at least 2-3 years for a new gen, if Kinect totally flops next holiday season. If Kinect does holiday season of next year, we're probably looking at 2015 for next gen. So I say get one and enjoy, no need to miss out!

the only reason id buy a next gen xbox is if i can bring my GT over to the new console and all of my gamerscore and game saves....and id like to still be able to earn achievements on the xbox 360 games

That's a good choice! I used to only own a Wii and my life was so sad compared to what it is now with a 360. If you do buy it you're life will take a sudden turn for the better.

Yeah I heard that the 4gb model doesn't work with Halo Reach because it doesn't have an actual harddrive. Thanks for all the advice guys, but does anyone really believe that Microsoft will wait until 2015 to make a new system. I am fine with buying an xbox 360 now as long as the next one doesn't come out for at least two years. But 2015?! I don't think that Nintendo and Sony plan on waiting that long so why would Microsoft? Plus I would imagine that developers would start to get bored with the technology before that.

The redesign on hardware for the xbox slim, could technically be viewed as a new system. I honestly think this generation for the Xbox 360 is going to go a LONG way, 2015 is not out of the question. The system refreshes are great, and the fall updates have been great too. I would definitely purchase one. One of the best systems I've ever owned.

The biggest rumor in the Nintendo stable is Wii HD and nothing big for Sony to the best of my knowledge. I think they are trying to milk what they have for as long as they can. As for the dev's, if the current hardware will support it the software can be changed to suit.

I used to be a sociopathic pederast with frotteuristic tendencies, then my buddies from the support-group bought me an Xbox. Now I'm a junior VP at Toyota. Thank you Xbox.

Yeah, I don't think my life will be that much different once I get an Xbox, but I found your comments amusing :) Honestly I've always been kind of a Nintendo guy, but I'm fed up with them in a lot of ways. Mostly dealing with issues of playing online and the inability to communicate online. Next gen if I have to pick one system initially I'll probably go with Microsoft. I've always thought that I couldn't survive without the Mario platformer released for each system, zelda, mario kart, etc. But now I've really seen that other systems have so much more to offer, not just visually but in gaming choices. Can't wait to get that Xbox 360.
