Anyone here read Gameinformer? theres aletter from a dude in there saying mass effect is total garbage and that it can't compare to halo or the mediocre(at best) timeshift. He also stated that he never got to the second battle, cause he didn't know how to get to it.

I am sorry but this is a stupid person. Mass Effect is tied for most original game on my list, tied with ratchet and clank, thje fact that i could punch and bully people is a amazing. Plus, since i almost always think cover systems are stupid, it had a simple to navigate and fun to use cover system.

Basically, My Question Is:

Are the Casual Gamers destroying the games we love? Have all the big Corporations forgot about the people that started their buisness?

No, seriously, look at the sales for mass effect, then Halo and Madden, Halo and same as last year football gamesell MILLIONS, while Mass Effect can barely go Platinum, certain games are gamers games. Mass Effect is a gamer game.

Trust me, it's hitting every fan of gaming for that matter. Here's one that I wanted to point out! Look at DiRT, prime example. DiRT is an amazing game, but Codemasters watered the game down to cater to a mass market. They wanted 9 year old kids in Kansas to have as much fun as a 28 year old guy in Florida. It lost it's focus for that fact. I mean look at the name, DiRT. It's Generic. That's like naming a game shooting or driving.

I'm a huge fan of the Colin McRae Rally series (still own all the games) and for me DiRT is a completely dumbed down version of a game that orginally catered to hardcore rally fans. Especially CMR 04 and 05. So, I lost one of my favorite series because of the need to appeal to a more broader spectrum of comsumers. Hardcore games are getting fewer and farther between these days.

I didn't like Mass Effect because I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do next. In my mind, a game isn't supposed to frustrate you to no end. You shouldn't have to do a google search just to find out the next path or person to talk to. I understand that's what alot of other gamers want and I'm very appreciative of that. It's just not my thing. Growing up I had alot of friends who played D&D and then Magic and would read the book things and have meetings about strategies. I never got into that.

I too couldn't find my way around some times, But the map and Journal helps

I've said it before, and I'm saying it again, shallow gamers with no mind for story destroy great games and leave us with mindless games. Legacy of Kain and Baldur's Gate deserve more credit than they've recieved, for example. Unfortunately more people will buy Rock Band than Mass Effect, and so mindless games will continue to be vomited out at us.Haeravon

ah, see, hm, how do i say this. He only played through 45 or so minutes of the game, he got to the citadel and he didn;t know what to do. Then he complained cause he thought the cover system was too normal for him and that he wouldve liked it more if it was like gears. I personally hated the gears of war cover system because it was basically cheating, you hid begind cover, then you blind fired but you could still see your target, thats cheating i think

The entire medium is driven by money, and casual gamers bring the most money. They buy games with flashy graphics, which is why so many games focus resources on that rather than making it longer, or improveing gameplay. On top of that, the sheer cost of developing for current gen consoles means you need alot of sales (mostly to casual gamers) to make a profit, so developers are alot less willing to try new things.

Anyone who doubts that just has to look at the Xbox 360's library. Countless M-rated 1st/3rd person shooters, and so many games with a rediculously thin story (because gamers don't like stories, obviously), that I almost didn't bother buying the console. I only because of Mass Effect.

Yep I read that letter in the GI mag. That guy was a moron. He didn't even give the game a chance. Mass Effect did start off kind of slow and you were stuck in the Citadel for the beginning part of the game, but once it took off, it kicked ass! I just finished my first play-through a couple weeks ago as a Paragon. Can't wait for round 2 as a Renegade!!

Hm....I just said earlier that not ALL frats are awful, but theyre out there. Oh, I went to M.I.T and DigiPen, there weren't many fraternities there and most of them were for LAN parties.

i have not played mass effect but after the first levels of the game i was bored to the point where i forced myself to play itt because it was so popular and i thought the good stuff would come in the middle of the game but it never showed upmarvingamebeast

He man I think that you do not have to play mass efect to be hardcore. I play things like tomb raider and dead or alive and burnout and forza. And mine oppinion is that as long as there are gamers there willalways be some harder games. And by the way I thought about playing mass effect is it really that great.
