Watch youtube videos and play consistently, thats how to get good at any multiplayer game

No, no, no ten MILLION times no. The YouTube community is what ruined this game. Learn how to play the game right, not by abusing overpowered set ups and cheap tactics.
Can't really give tips on a game that's a broken as MW3. Can't really give gun tips because unless you have host, your gun skill doesn't matter much. I thought Gears 2 host advantage was bad... MW3 is the worst I've seen in this area.
What you can do is work on your perception. CoD on consoles has a ridiculously low FOV. Make sure you're checking corners, and watching as much of the map as you can. It's extremely easy to miss someone who's relatively close to you.
Jump shot or drop shot if necessary.
You don't have to ADS for every kill. One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is trying to ADS when they should have hip fired or vice versa.
You really don't need to watch Youtube clips, just play--alot!
However, play smart, don't just do the same tactic over and over. If you aren't doing well it is because you are obviously doing something wrong, so you may need to change some things up.
Find a gun you like and stick with it. Get comfortable with the aim and recoil, if you constantly are switching guns and trying to learn the maps it will be really difficult for you especially right away.

This is CoD, its not like they have ProMod on consoles.Anyways, back when I played CoD in the MW2 days, I was terrible until I started watching videos. I got tips like map specific lines of sight, how to slow down your gameplay, and the way to cover yourself the best, as well as visual reinforcement on how to execute said tactics.
However, playing for yourself is the best way. Find the guns you like, not the ones you are supposed to like. Find your sweet spot between rushing and camping. And just get your aim and movement down, like in any shooter.
P.S. don't sprint everywhere.

I agree youtube has really done nothing to help the shooter genre...
