okay.... i was going to wait until it was in the under $30 bargain bin anyway.
what do you think of dragon age origins?

every1 who calls this game a gow rip off are just adhd fanboys. all games are rip offs call of duty is a medal of honor ripoff. final fantasy tactics is a rip off of shining force i could go on all day.
Devil May Cry and Bayonetta play the same because they're both created by Hideki Kamiya.

I know I know...
I think the point of this thread is pretty stupid, considering the game hasn't even been released yet and people are getting the difference between fact and opinion confused. I don't get why you're so hellbent on deterring people from this game. People are going to determine whether they want to purchase the game through their own resources (reading reviews or renting it), so I doubt this rant is particularly meaningful to anyone. Picking up health the same way hardly makes a game a cheap rip-off, especially if you look at how many games use hearts and coins to pick up health/currency.
LittleEnid
It's almost like you're not even reading what I am saying. I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do, I'm simply trying to warn them by voicing my opinion of the demo, which I obviously felt was a complete and utter fail. Public opinion is also a resource that many people take advantage of. Why do you think there are so many individuals, on these boards alone, asking for what game they should get next? Or why do most sites even offer their viewers the ability to type up their own review for games? Obviously it's got some kind of impact, and I don't appreciate you trying to belittle my opinions and my rights to express them. We don't live in a Communist country that dictates that everyone must have the same views, at least not yet.
There's a difference between a spin-off and a rip-off.
LittleEnid
Yes I realize this. I also realize that there is a difference between borrowing something and outright copying something, and Dante's Inferno is guilty of the latter. It is devoid of any real character that is all its own, and should never have been made. That's my opinion, it's not a fact, because obviously someone thought it was a good idea to make a crappy tie-in to a cla ssic piece of literature that has no relation to that piece of literature whatsoever. Then, to further add insult to injury, they felt the need to copy a hugely successful game like God of War, realizing that it's not multi-plat, and cut and paste pretty much every aspect of that game. Therefore, while God of War may be a great game, it does NOT deserve to be blatantly copied and sold for profit. That is an injustice to the brand, and a completely disrespectful move on Visceral's part. To be honest, I'm a bit surprised that no one else is taken aback by this shameless display of unoriginality. But hey, if you want to support it, be my guest, but don't say I didn't warn you. I will be busy enjoying quality titles like Darksiders.
To avoid any further confusion, I've put key points of my reply in bold.
Well I guess you guys will be the poor saps supporting this wholly unoriginal game from a developer who is obviously just cashing in. Those were just my thoughts, and I'm sticking with them. I felt the story was completely lame and does a terrible injustice to the subject-matter that it's based upon. The action was just on par with God of War, which were games that came out last-generation. It would be a fine game, if it hadn't already been done to death. Everything from the button-prompted takedowns to the control scheme, the pan-out while running up stairs, and the fact that obtaining health from GREEN water of life was just a complete and blatant rip-off of GOW...and that's not a good thing! Also, it may run in 60 FPS, but that doesn't mean squat if it doesn't look good, and it doesn't.Intrakitt
Even though I will be picking this up, this guy is right. It's really not that good. The demo is like a puzzle with pieces missing. I don't even care that it's a rip off of God of War gameplay wise. (that's why I'm buying it) but it just really doesn't seem like they did a good job. Yes, the prerendered cinematics look good but the in game graphics aren't that great. In fact they aren't much better than God of War II for the PS2. So, if you have the extra cash to waste like I do, pick it up. But, I don't think the game will be all that great.
okay so your saying that bayonetta is more orginal than dantes infernoLook people, I wasn't trying to claim that other games don't copy or "borrow" ideas from popular franchises of the past, all I was trying to imply by starting this thread is that Dante's Inferno is, beyond a doubt, the biggest, most shameless rip-off of the God of War franchise I have ever seen and that the game, based on its own merits, is completely disappointing. If you are a person, like me, who cannot stand people just blatantly ripping off the popular ideas of others so that they can obviously turn a profit off of the poor saps who are like, "Derr, God of War was awesome so this must be koool too!!" than you will surely agree that there are better titles out there that you could be spending your money on. Bayonetta, even though it looks a lot like Devil May Cry with a female protagonist, still looks and feels more original than Dante's Inferno, as does the aforementioned Darksiders.
I was in no way trying to state that Halo is wholly original, but it is way more different than DOOM. It is, afterall, the first FPS game that could mesh good first-person action with third-person driving controls, except for maybe Redline on the PC, but who really remembers that title? Even though there have been countless immitators of Halo since it was first released, it still generally feels like it has a st yle all its own. Dante's Inferno, on the other hand, does not. They should have just named it Ninja of War to save people any confusion that the misleading title shared with the cla ssic piece of literature, as this game is far from cla ssic, and I hope that people do not support it when it is released so as to hinder future projects like this from ever surfacing.
Also: I'm not trying to say you should support Sony's PS3 and buy God of War III or anything like that. I'm personally more of a 360 type of guy and I have been from the start, but my brothers both own PS3's and I live with them now, so I am exposed to the best of both worlds. But anyway, if God of War III turns out to be anything like the games that it is succeeding than I will reserve the same judgment for it that I am placing on Dante's Inferno. There has been enough of a time-gap between the release of the second one and the third one where the developers could easily put in some creative, original ideas and hopefully throw in something to replace the dated, boring, button press bossfights/takedowns of the past and hopefully create a new combat system.
That is all. I hope I could shed some light on what I was actually trying to say by creating this thread.

thi is just flat out favortism

Cdog993
lol no, I never said that at all. When you put it that way though, yes, I'd have to say that Bayonetta looks a hell of a lot more original than Dante's Inferno athough I have yet to play Bayonetta so I cannot voice any kind of opinion about the gameplay.
[QUOTE="teh_shogun"]
darksiders is copying zelda.
Intrakitt
Nah not really. It's unique and different from Zelda in enough ways to warrant the attention of us gamers, but as it is far too many people are giving Dante's Inferno too much attention that it is not deserving of. That's my major gripe with the title I suppose. It seems wholly unoriginal and, in this day and age, most of us should be more careful about our videogame purchases and support original titles instead of obvious cash-ins. Of course this is just my opinion.
How the hell is God of war an original title?Nope, the Dante's Inferno demo is great. As soon as I played, I pre-ordered the Divine Edition!
And that's a whole lotta truth.
played the demo, thought it was amazing.... you are clearly a troll.I suggest you play the demo first. Not sure if it's out on XBL yet, but it's on PSN, and it totally SUCKS!!! It's a completely shameless, blatant rip-off of God of War in just about every way imaginable. It doesn't even look good to be honest...All I'm trying to do is warn you folks, because I know how bad it feels to spend money on a game you're psyched about and then it turns out to be a crapfest.
Don't judge Dante's Inferno on the credibility of its developer because, while Dead Space was amazing, DI simply is not!!!

This guy isn't the brightest bulb tbh
Commando015
Gee, thanks guy. You absolutely ooze genius, and you're so humble too!!! Who the hell are you, trying to insinuate I am not intelligent by voicing an opinion?! Do you not understand the concept? Do you have no free thought? Maybe most of you are convinced that Dante's Inferno is a great game, even though it's not, but there are obviously some amongst the crowd who agree with me. It's a bit disheartening to see that I am somehow in the complete minority on this subject. If I said I was surprised I would be lying though. No wonder re-hashes and unoriginal properties are so successful year in and year out, while up and coming IP's continue to struggle. Way to go, Commando015, is that your age?

So because you have a picture of the God of War Collection with a postcard that says that you, BioShockOwnz thinks "Dante's Inferno is AWESOME!" that makes it the truth? No, I don't think so, and I can't believe you took the time to make a picture as useless as that which proves absolutely nothing. Hopefully you'll read the copy of the Dante's Inferno book which is thrown in with that edition, so you can see how the game completely tears it apart.

I actually read the Divine Comedy 6 or so years ago. I do find it curious, however, that most people who bash Dante's Inferno because it doesn't stick 100% to the poem, haven't even read the poem -- or their knowledge of said poem is very little. This is a game, which is meant to be played and had fun with, which is what it succeeds at -- not being read and becoming a classic poem. Developing a game into a playable and fun game is a completely different beast and not everything can make an amazing translation without taking some liberties. I realize this and you should, too.
 I liked your visual aid: "See?? You can like both!"

So many people always feel the need to pick a favorite and cling to it. It's instinct.

Hey, but I can do you one better than people complaining about the game when they haven't read Divine Comdedy: People who complain about Lord of the Rings games that aren't true to the films.
Anyway, on-topic here: I agree. This isn't supposed to be an educational game. What the hell ("hell" ) would a game based on the Inferno look like? You'd just follow Virgil around and look at stuff. It'd be like one of those early 90s "multimedia" games. That would suck.
I'm not trying to be rude but what was the point of making this thread? I think the reason people may question your motives is because you created this topic in the 360 forum. Had you created this topic in the PS3 forum then I could understand because the PS3 has the God of War series and the 360 doesn't. Why would 360 owners care if it is a God of War 3 clone when 360 owners don't have the God of War series to begin with anyway. If you tell 360 owners that this is a God of War rip-off they are not going to be upset they're going to be happy because Dante's Inferno will fill their hunger for a God of War game. Having never played a God of War game I played the Dante's inferno demo and thought it was awesome!! This is a day one purchase! This game will definitely bring joy to 360 owners!!
