Just played the demo for Too Human. Holy crap that game was NOT good.

Graphics: OK. Sound: OK. Story: OK. Controls: God-damned awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't believe me? Play the demo!

For me the controls are not the most important thing, but the controls in Too Human are sobad it is pretty much unplayable....

I was pretty sure I was gonna buy this game. After this demo, NOT A CHANCE I HELL!!!!

After the first fifteen minutes the controls were fine to me. It still would have been nice to not have the sword linked to the right joystick though. My biggest problem was the camera. I put it on the Iso setting (which is closest to Diablo) and while it was nice and far back is still wasn't the best.

Other than the camera i really liked the game. I liked the sound... a lot. The graphics i thought were good. They weren't amazing or the best, but not bad at all. the only other thing i could complain about was the menus. The noise got a little annoying and it wasn't the bes, but there are way worse menus. Oh and from what i could see the story seemed interesting to me. I can't tell if it will be good or not.

Sorry TC, but I don't trust you.

I played the demo twice through, and loved it. Going to play it again after I play the Tales of Vesperia demo, and some Unreal Tournment 3.

The controls arent terrible, you just haven't gotten use to the controls yet. There's a trick to nailing string attacks. Once you've learned that, you'll take back what you said. Trust me, I felt the same way on my first playthrough.

Earlier, I posted all the flaws with Too Human, in my first playthrough. But later today, I had a chance to play it again and I have to say, it's one heck of a game. The first time through, I just ran through it, not really collecting all the loot and not nailing my string attacks. The second time through, I nailed all my string attacks and unlocked all the secret areas as well as collect all the loot I possibly could. In one of the secret rooms, if you destroy all the enemies in under 40 seconds, you get a special blue item for equipment. So I did that but I missed one, which I think were the shoulder pads. I started the game with red armor and finished with all gold armor (blue items) with a nifty hammer/mace. I was more careful in distributing my points in the talent tree and that made for a better gameplay experience overall. The controls, at first I thought were clunky. But once you get use to the control scheme, you'll be flying around having lots of fun. I know I did. I only thing I still couldnt do was finish off the Troll. I was able to mount him with action button "A" but I didnt know how to finish him off. I tried all the buttons but it didnt seem to work so I just killed him with ruiner. It would have been nice if they explained how to finish off the trolls.

So, all in all, the graphics are solid although the character class select screen looks to have low resolution. For the most part, it looks pretty sharp. Voice acting is decent to good, but not powerful enough to strike a chord. Freya is hot. Baldur is badass. So we have ourselves a game. My only gripe is that the single-player campaign is way too short. Reportedly, the SP is about ten hours long which is far from enough when it comes to a dungeon crawler, with RPG elements. It would be nice if it was at least 20 hours. That would really make my day.

Overall, I'm content with the new demo and hopefully with the finishing touches, Too Human will hold it's own come release day. I would rate the demo an 8.5, and I'm sure I'll score the retail version of Too Human, higher. It's a great game and I recommend playing through the demo more than once to get a true feel for the controls, skill tree, and loot.

I don't believe you because I played the demo. The game is pretty amazing and if you think the controls suck, play it again. I thought they were awkward too my first playthrough

I just played the demo and the game is just terrible. It's obvious that the game is not polished. It reminded me of Lair, and no, this is not a beautiful disaster, it is just a disaster.

Exactly. Not many people will understand the controls in their first playthrough, but once you get the hang of it and focus on nailing string combo attacks, you'll love it. It's definitely a day one purchase for me.

The controls do take some time to get the hang of but once you do it was alot of fun. I played thru the demo twice and the second time only died once and was kicking serious ass. Was wondering about that 40 sec room so will have to try to clear that room a little quicker next time. I am looking forward to playing all the other classes and trying out the co-op.

I thought it was fantastic. The controls could have flowed a little better, but overall, once you're used to it I thought it was very solid and very enjoyable.

Overall: Meh. Not bad, but not great either.

The graphics and audio were decent but nothing special. The main menu was poorly set up (why are skills and equipment so far apart?) and the menus in general looked kinda bland IMO. Also it would have been nice if they told you how to kill those big golem things. I managed to do it but aside from randomly mashing controls I'm still not exactly sure how. I'm willing to give the controls the benefit of the doubt for now since I only played through it once.

But really my big complaint is the camera. I left them on the default setting and it was in my way half the time. When just running around it does a fine job keeping up and showing off the scenery. But as soon as the action starts the camera becomes as much an enemy (perhaps more so) than the enemies onscreen. Numerous time the camera was pointed in the completely opposite direction of where I wanted to look.

It's still worth a rent IMO but I doubt people will be lining up for it.

First, you're really reviewing a demo?

Second, that was one of the worst reviews ever.

I thought it was pretty sweet. it def needs some polish though, especially the cam. The graphics may not be great but I have a feeling later on in the there'll be alot more enemies on the screen at once then there were in the demo. ya, the controls are really wierd at first, but once you get used to them the possibilities for attack strings are endless. can't wait to get the game so i can play around with the other classes and do more customizing of weapons and armor. btw to defeat the trolls u gotta get on top and use the left anolog to keep your balance as it sways from left to right, when your in the center push down on the right analog to kill it. or u can shoot the arm with hammer until its destroyed and it will die, just use a rifle and stand far enough back so u don't get hit by fire ring. its all in the adv. combat menu.

My only problem was that it doesn't explain things clearly enough. Like with the huge robot when you're supposed to balance on its shoulders, I had to idea what was happening there. I had the same problem with the "cyberspace" bit where you can rotate that stone to open doors - at no point did it say you can only rotate it once round, so I ended up missing one of the doors. The "salvage" system also wasn't explained, and I (unknowingly) spent most of the demo with auto-salvage set to everything.

At first it was difficult to get used to but then when I took the time to read the tips they are giving you the gameplayed flowed. I missed alot of things the first play through because I skipped all the video and good parts. I thought some of the guys were not beatable but they are all beatable and easy when you juggle which is the theme of the game. Its an RPG and has puzzle elements so if you rush you can miss out on secret rooms and tons of good items. My third play through I was able to kill everything and find all the secret tooms and ended with about 7 purple items 5 blue items and 3 charms, 2 with full runes, 1 activated. The Laser pistols or Rifle with the commando are great for racking up quick combos and air juggles. Dont forget to break the red rocks all throughout the board for tons of extra bounty. If this is just part of one level this game is going to have tons of great drops nad custimizable items.

What a huge disappointment these controls are just terrible which i think will cost them alot of customers, the camera angles are some of the worst Ive ever seen and will turn alot of people off of this game. The graphics are mediocre at best this game is a huge let down. I hope the final version is much better than this joke of a demo, they shouldn't have even bothered with a demo that way they could trick some people into buying this game before the resell it at gamestop.

The game definitely has some minor problems imo...the biggest not being controls but overall polishing. Im still getting the game day 1 because i thoroughly enjoyed the demo, but its not without flaws. The controls take some getting used to but overall i can understand their reasoning for the setup/layout. The camera is pretty bad though...the whole reset camera and motions do feel as fluid as it should be.

im hoping this demo is old and minor things have been re-tuned.

I am sure one could get used to the control scheme, but it certainly isn't an attractive way to play the game, it lacks fluidity. Perhaps it's a common annoyance, sort of like going between R6V and CoD, where in one you click the analog to aim down the sight and the other you hold the left trigger. And in Too Human, you have to walk and turn the camera with the left analog and the right analog will control the sword rather than swing the camera around. It is counter-intiutive because it goes against what one is used to. Nevertheless, I cant say I was overly hooked on my first quick glance, it seems like something that will end up in the 6-8 scale, at best.

The controls were fine. The camera was the worst part of it, but that was easily rectified by changing it to the Iso setting. I quite liked it overall.

It's a change in the camera's perspective so it's more Diablo-like (which I found easier). Just look at the control scheme, it'll show you hte button that does it, I can't remember.

I know the d-pad moves the camera in and out...maybe you're refering to the choosing the camera that is furthest away?

you know i must admit the controls were not what i would call "standard" but, after a couple of minutes of playing the game i got used to it, it wasn't the worst concept I've ever seen to have combat as it was but i think most of you are missing the main underlining fault of the game.

THE EQUIPMENT/SKILL INTERFACE!!!!!

the skill tree was frankly a waste of time, the skills shown in the demo really didn't have any massive effect on your combat and the items that were dropped (though Plentiful) lacked any imagination or noticeable enhancement to your character even the purple items. as it was just a demo i obviously only experience a small part of the game but from that alone i feel it will need to pull out a few surprises in the finished release to make it passable.

He is.

The camera was kind o stupid but using ISO the game was great. I also found the controls odd at first but the second time they were fine and the third play through there were no problems with anything. Its a great game I just hope the campaign has a good length. Overal it was a good taste for a game that will do well, I predict a score around 7.5 to 8, 8.5 if the game has amazing things that the demo did not showcase.

thats what i thought.

as for the controls...the same with me. i only got to play through the demo 1.5 times....the second half time it was much better and my understanding was a lot more thorough. I also realized after that if you hold the right analog stick in the same direction, he keeps attacking...i kept on tapping it in the direction originally, which felt annoying.

It's been in development for three years. Most games are.

The game announced 10 years ago isn't the same game as this one.

unless reviewers are biased, this game won't get above a 7.5. i've played the demo and didn't like the controls or camera at first, especially in combat. i grew to kind of get used to the controls. however, pressing Rb to centre yourself is hell of annoying. combat is hard with this sometimes. also, the combat is fun at first, but in the short time that i beat the demo i grew bored of it. there doesn't seem to be much character customization.

many people do enjoy this game though. i am not one of them. lol

I thought so too. I was wondering why Silicon Knights would start Baldur off with a full set of armor already. If you've seen pictures of Baldur and the gang, you would know that they have their own uniform. Now that would have been more badass seeing Baldur start the game off with the regular uniform and then earn his new armor or they give him some armor - like what Gordon Freeman did in Half Life 2. A cutscene that introduces him putting on new armor and getting a weapon of some sort. A lot of games like Dark Sector fail to explain how and why a character gets a weapon or a suit of armor. Some gamers would like a backstory to it. It would be nice.

unless reviewers are biased, this game won't get above a 7.5. i've played the demo and didn't like the controls or camera at first, especially in combat. i grew to kind of get used to the controls. however, pressing Rb to centre yourself is hell of annoying. combat is hard with this sometimes. also, the combat is fun at first, but in the short time that i beat the demo i grew bored of it. there doesn't seem to be much character customization.

many people do enjoy this game though. i am not one of them. lol

Thousands of pieces of loot as well as runes and charms says there's character customization. A ton of it.

Nevertheless, I cant say I was overly hooked on my first quick glance, it seems like something that will end up in the 6-8 scale, at best.DClown

Yeah, I wish more shooters will use the left trigger for aiming/zooming. It's just SO MUCH more comfortable. And make left shoulder button sprint like in R6V2, instead of using the press left stick down as sprint which is annoying on the thumb.

that's probably true. i didn't dig into the charms and runes that much. but it would be cool to customize the look of your character (face, body structure, etc...) i know a lot of games don't do that, but i felt before playind the demo this one should have.

Although that would be nice, I don't really see the point of it. Your going to be covered in armor through out the majority of the game so you won't even be able to see your character.

that's another good point. i actually enjoyed many aspects of the demo. the graphics were quite nice (especially in 1080 p), the cutscenes were well done, and so was the voice acting. i felt the story was really going somewhere and would suck me in. the only real problem i had with the game was the camera and the combat controls. pressing RB to centre the camera takes away from the flow of the action and can feel akward. also, the combat was fun at first but you can honestly flick that joystick like no tomorrow to kill your enemies. IMHO i got bored quickly.

I really didn't enjoy this demo. The camera bugged me constantly, I wasn't a fan of the controls, and the menu system is flawed at best. I didn't even get through the whole thing because it bored me (I spent half an hour "learning" the controls, and it still didn't feel fluid at all.) The graphics and sound aren't bad, but playing on a standard definition TV is a disappointing experience (think Dead Rising), and the hordes of "goblins" they through at you are so generic it hurt.

I will probably play the demo again, since that seems to be the only way to enjoy it. I could easily forgive everything else about this if I could just control the camera with the right thumb and slash with any other button. Give me that option, and I will buy this game on day one, otherwise it will be a rental for me.

P.S. If you want a truly great sci fi game that beautifully mixes weapons, melee, and powers, go find a copy of Advent Rising for the original xbox. The only thing that game suffered from was being released before it's time on hardware that was to inferior to run it. I will sell my first born to any company who picks that IP up and dusts it off.

i hate it when ppl say bad things about games just bc they suck at them. like the guy who started this thread.nahmean187

The game sucks not us. The gameplay was cruddy. The melee was useless and I only got him to do one single combo after flicking the analog stick in every direction. No skill is involved. They failed when making this game. No offense.
