Does anybody else think they are releasing way too many indie games? Seems like some good ones got lost in the flood and aren't in the Top Rated or Top Downloads or anything. Motorheat for example. They ought to be more selective about what they are releasing in my opinion. Just a thought.

It's fine the way it is. If they got more selective, creativity may be hurt. You need to learn how to weed through the crap and yes Motorheat is a fine gem just purchased it a few days ago. My main complaint regarding indie games is that microsoft requires you to be online.

It's just hard to keep up with them. If you go a week without checking New Arrivals, something really cool might have fallen off and you'll never know it exists if it doesn't get a really high rating or enough downloads to keep it visible. There are probably games I'd buy if I knew they existed, but I'm not going to go through them A-Z. Oh well.

I can understand that. You could always try a indie games focused site such as xnplay, which has weekly round ups.

edit: added link.

If there wasnt a rating system I would say theres too much. now that theres a rating system I just sort by rating and look at the top rated games.

Doesn't really fathom me, but I'd google around for reviewing/rating websites that can sort out the "gems" for you.

I wouldn't go as far calling them trash. Most of the developers of those games are independent devs who are trying to make it in the industry. Some of the games are quite enjoyable for only a buck.

While I partially agree with what you said you can't say that for all the devs. Because if some of them were really trying to make it in the industry and not trying to make a quick buck then we wouldn't have the 30 controller vibrating indie games we have now (or the 20 alarm clocks). There are definitely devs out there trying very hard to make a quality, but for some of them it seems like they were trying really hard, but then stopped caring (when the like 10 out of the past 20 games have "avatar" in the name you can tell).

Well they're user created so its just random people making what they feel like. Here are the best ones I can think of right off the bat:

I made a game with zombies

Beat Hazard

EZmuze+hamst3r edition

Last survivor

Urban space squirrels

BlindGIRL

Kaliedoscope

all of those are excellent games.

So Indie games seem overcrowded, but mainstream games don't?
