Can I just burn a dvd full of mp3s, dump them on the xbox HD, and play them from there?  Because, there's no way I'm converting my only external HD to FAT32 just for this.

Nope MP3's are a no go with regards to "dumping" on your HD only (I think) can you add songs as windows media files but i'm not sure about that!!

You could do it with CD's, but not DVD's.

Yeah thats the order. Best way to listen to music on your 360: 1) Stream off a PC (benifit cause you can sort genres, albums, artist, ect) 2) Use a External HD connected straight to 360 (downside is it only sorts by file name) 3) Load CD onto 360 (downside takes forever, and you have to name the tacks manually)

Yeah you can...you rip the CD to the hard drive and then put the game back in...it works fine, I've done it plenty of times.  As for USB devices, I have them organized by artist and album when I play them on my 360, I don't know what you guys are doing  differently.
