So I have never really played RPGs before, but it is something that I want to start doing. I was wondering people opinions, if Skyrim was too much RPG to start with? or should I go with something that is a but of both action/RPG like mass effect?I finally have time to put into a game, and I want to pick up one of those kind of titles.

Thanks

You might like Skyrim. I don't like any RPG Bethesda makes though.

My entry game into the genre was Final Fantasy IX a long time ago, but since late the series has been slipping a bit. I'd go for Skyrim if I were you, it's a decent place to start.

The Fable games can be a good introduction to RPG's, they aren't like RPG's like Skyrim, Fallout, Dragon Age, Kingdoms Of Amalur and others, but they are reasonably laid back with a good learning curve.

If you want a more old fashioned kind of RPG then Dragon Age Origins is a great one to go for. If you want a more expansive RPG then the Elder Scrolls andFallouts are good, but they can be demanding on first time RPG players.

Kingdoms Of Amalur is a good adventure RPG, but it might be challenging for someone new to RPG's. There are also JRPG's like Final Fantasy and Blue Dragon, although they might be a tad hard going and fairly boring.

Live Arcade has RPG's as well like Torchlight, a dungeon crawler kind of RPG, and older RPG's like Phantasy Star 3.

I definitely agree with this. I think any of the Fable games are a great place to start for RPG. Smoke also mentioned KoA which I think would be another way to get in to RPGs.

If you really want to get RIGHT into them, I recommend going back to the beginning for 360 and picking up TES: Oblivion.

Wow...my advice is liked...weird. Anyway, if you are looking for begin with RPG's, then I would recommend the Fable games. They are action RPG's, third person, you can play as female or male in Fable 2 and 3, not the first one sadly, and the action is a kind of free flow combat where you can use weapons like swords, crossbows, guns - in Fable 2 and 3 anyway, hammers, maces and magic. The stories are nothing heavy, mostly light stories with some good humour and a little darkness to them while being light hearted. The RPG elements aren't super heavy, but they are a gentle first RPG form and can give a taste of stat use. The games are just right in regards of challenge, they are largely short and fairly easy with some light challenges with some opponents. The quests are easy enough to manage while being fun to do. If you want to try a first stats based RPG, then older RPG's like Suikoden, Shining Force and the older Final Fantasy games as well as the older pre-online Phantasy Stars would be a good starting point. There is an excellent compilation disc out for the 360 which has about almost 50 Mega Drive/Genesis, with some Master System, games on it and there are some great RPG's on that - Shining In The Darkness, Shining Force 1 and 2, Phantasy Star 1, 2, 3 and 4 and Beyond Oasis/The Story Of Thor: A Successor Of Light, are great older RPG's to begin with.

Try out Mass Effect (start with the first one), The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Lost Odyssey to get an idea of what to expect from different kinds of RPGs and from there it should be pretty easy to know what kind of RPGs you'd like.

Skyrim is sort of an action-RPG as well. I personally prefer turn based RPGs, or strategy RPGs. If you wanna try those, you can't go wrong with Record of Agarest War, Spectral Force, or Resonance of Fate.

I woulld suggest Kingoms of Amalur as a furst RPG. The combat system is great and it is not that difficult. It would be a good game to start learning how to level your characters abilities and skills. Even if you make a few mistakes along the way you can still finish the game and not get stuck. Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, and Dragon Age II would be good also. I would suggest staying away from Final Fantasy and Falloutgames until you have some RPG experience

After watching my son play them, I would recommend the Fable series as well, along with Torchlight, which is very easy to pick up and play.

Of course, once you're comfortable with RPGs, Fallout 3, Skyrim and Oblivion are highly recommended. Divinity 2: Dragon Knight Saga and Two Worlds II are also good.

Well there are a ton of awesome rpgs that have been released for the Xbox 360. Here is my personal favorite list of some of the best Xbox 360 rpgs that I have played:

10) Eternal Sonata

9) The Last Remnant

8) Blue Dragon

7) Fable II

6) Infinite Undiscovery

5) Lost Odyssey

4) Final Fantasy XIII

3) Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope

2) Dragon Age: Origins

1) Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I loved all of these games and the best part are they are pretty cheap to buy now.
