I just bought a pair the other day, and I absolutely love them. As for the hissing/"whirring" noise that some people complian about... depending on how you are able to hook them up it can be easily remedied. I have a surround system with a headphone jack... I plugged the headset into that, and instead of cranking the headset way up, I turned up the reciever more than usual, and only have to turn the headset up about halfway to make it LOUD. The noise seems to only really be noticable when the headset is turned up really loud, so since I don't have to turn the headset volume dial itself up all the way, I don't hear the sound any more.
Now, if you're unable to hook it up in a similar way, and you do have to deal with the sound... it's really not bad at all. As I said, it's only really noticable when the headset is cranked, and even then once the game sounds and music start up you don't even hear it anymore.
As for other things you should know... I'm told there is a really bad buzz if you try to use them with a wired controller, or if your play and charge kit is connected. I use rechargables so I can't comment on that. The headset is powered via USB, and plugs right into the USB port on your console. I did try plugging it into my laptop (which I believe it says you can do) and got a loud buzzing sound... though I tried it later on a different USB port on the laptop (while using the headphones with my laptop) with no issues, so it could just be me.
Some people will tell you to spend more and get Trittons or a similar, higher-end brand... but for some of us even spending $50-60 on headphones is tough to justify, and for the money Turtle Beach headphones have great sound quality. I can honestly say they have improved my Left 4 Dead game quite a bit. I also notice a lot of game sounds I never even knew existed before. I have a pair of Sony headphones that I've used through the same system (but they didn't have chat so I couldn't use them while gaming online) and I can definitely say they don't hold a candle to the Turtle Beaches.
Enjoy!
Be sure to let us know how you like them when they come in, I've been in the market for a good set.javafriekwill do my man
I have two sets of TB. The first one I bought was the $59 set similar to the x11s and I was not impressed with the sound quality. They seemed very "boomy" and the cords were a hassle. I agree with Deceptions post that the higher end headsets are expensive and not in everyone's reach but with that being said, I would recomend the TB X41's to any serious gamer. I researched all of the higher end sets I could find, Astros, Triton, etc. and went with the X41's. I saw several reviews where people complained about a interference hiss with the wireless but I have never had any problems. As far as the batteries go, I just pick up a 16 pack of AA's from Walmart and that keeps me in business for a couple of months. If you have a chance, compare the two side by side and I assure you, you will find the extra $ for the X41's. ( And don't forget that the x41's have 5.1 surround.)Noobsmokerwill take into account if i dont enjoy the x11's .. you can also purchase the DSS sound processor thing to make the x11's into 7.1 surround sound... could be worth its.. thanks for the input bro.

See, I have about 12 rechargeable batteries that I'm constantly putting on the charger already... Rock Band intruments, wireless mouse, Xbox and Wii controllers, remotes... I'm simply just sick of juggling them. I personally did not want to spend even more money, and then have to worry about having my batteries charged all the time on top of it. Then if one buys packs of batteries constantly, that's even more added cost to the equation. The cords for the X11's are long enough to not limit you unless you're in a large room... and I guess it's up to personal preference whether or not wires bother you. For me, it's not nearly enough of a nuisance to make me spend the extra cash and have to deal with battery headaches when I can just plug them in and play. That's gonna depend on the individual though.
As far as how "boomy" they are, I guess again it depends on how you have your set hooked up. Through my reciever I actually turned up the bass on the EQ's because I didn't feel it was enough, and when I hooked them up to my laptop I also felt they weren't really bassy enough. Then again, I may be a bit biased as I am a bassist. :P That said, I do wish you could control the bass boost, or at least turn it off or on.
just looked those up, they work on the xbox also right cause it says there for the pc? i am not rolling in cake but and extra 30 more might not be so bad if they really blow the x11's out of the waterI like my tritton AX pro better, i just gave my x11 to my roommate.

ur lookin at the tritton axpro pc, you need just the tritton ax pro, you can pick them up at best buy if one is near you.
oh i see thanks. Do you think they were worth the 150? Being 100 dollars more than then x11's do they really shine over them?
$150?! I couldn't imagine spending that much money on headphones for anything less than a recording studio. That's just insane for something just to hear videogame sounds through.

The x41 can actually support up to 7.1 surround. It is simulated surround and with the head phone jack in the front of the base unit you can plug in any stereo headset and get 7.1 surround. I have heard great things on the x11 and the only reason I went with the x41 was I was looking for a surround headset to play games and watch movies at night without waking everyone up.
i was also leaning towards the x41's.. i just dont trust wireless sound for some reason.. so i opted for the lower end just for the wired ones.. might pick up the DSS processor to turn the x11's into surround sound and still have it being wired
I was worried about wireless too but I have had no problems at all. The x11 and the seperate processor looks great if you want surround and not worry about batteries. I prob would have picked those up if they were available when I bought my x41. If only because they are cheaper.i was also leaning towards the x41's.. i just dont trust wireless sound for some reason.. so i opted for the lower end just for the wired ones.. might pick up the DSS processor to turn the x11's into surround sound and still have it being wired

7.1 surround sound, that includes a sub in each ear, can be used with ps3, xbox, and pc, mic is extremely good, very comfortable.
If you think those are worth it then yes.

I like the idea of true speakers in the headsets but they must start to feel heavy with all that extra weight on your head. That is the only complaint that I seem to hear of the astro when I was researching headsets. (other than some ppl like wireless and some don't)I have the X11 and X41 from Turtlebeach. They've got absolutely sick sound quality and they're really comfy too--even after several hours of MW2.
Turtlebeaches are a definite!

That is the only complaint that I seem to hear of the astro when I was researching headsets. (other than some ppl like wireless and some don't) thankfully the x11's are a perfect weight and are super comfortable.. i play reach for hours and forgot i have them on.. it just nice to be fully immersed into a game when you can hear everything in excellent quality.. highly recommended by me GSDo the x11 have a single audio jack that fits in the base unit? They might be a good standby pair if they do because I could plug them into the base of the x41 (has a secondary output) when I have a second person playing or if I don't have any batteries for the x41 headset.Totally agree with that. The X11 is extremely comfortable and the sound quality is excellent.

I love them besides having anything on my head or ears for hours at a time gets annoying. They are one of your best options or best(as far as I know) that aren't surround sound. As for the "hissing" I have never had that problem with them.
I would rate them pretty high, like I said I love them.
same here man i like em too!!! playing COD makes u more aware and games like dead space or alan wake definitely feel more intense. i was able to get mine for 38$ from dell.com, i don't think i would ever spend 150+ on headsets i honestly don't see how much better they can be. (Especially if you get the surround sound converter).

You guys have got me wanting to pick up a set now. Haven't heard of the x11's but did some reading after finding this thread and I'm sold. I just wish they were wireless. Anybody recommend a wireless set equal or better than the x11?javafriekThe x41 are wireless and have 7.1 surround but they are also $199.

Be sure to let us know how you like them when they come in, I've been in the market for a good set.javafriekSame here. My Sennheiser's is falling apart. One of the ear muffs is loose and it falls out. I have to "click" it back on... :P LOL. They're the HD 202's. Not even amongst the best but they suffice. But I always wonder how the $100 entry level headsets sound. You do get what you pay for. My big question is: How does player voice chat sound mixed/overlapped with game sounds?
I was put of buying them because of someone saying about a hissing sound. the mic lead on my X1s is dodgy though and I've been looking for a new pair...
I've read several sites say the x41 has a crackling popping sound when the batteries are low or with interference from wireless router. That's why I'm iffy about those.I was put of buying them because of someone saying about a hissing sound. the mic lead on my X1s is dodgy though and I've been looking for a new pair...

the only way i can hear the hissing sound is if there is absolutely no sound(xbox is off) and the game level is turned all the way.. i don't even come close to putting it all the way up when i am gaming.. not even close to half way to be honest because this headset can get LOUD.. the hissing is not a problem to be even noted in my opinion because you will never hear it unless you try to hear it... for 50 dollars off amazon you can't get any better than this.. if anyone is unsure about getting these.. be sure.. best xbox accessory i have ever boughten.. seriously you wont be disappointed by any means.

I've got a pair of the Sennheiser HD 25s, now those are some headphones. I do not have a mic for them however, they are for studio use only. I have received my X11s now and they are great. My only question is do people leave them on all the time? It seems like drawing power from the USB port 24/7 might be hard on the internal amp the headphones have?
