It seems strange that Epic would release a pretty major title like UT3 on the PS3 first, considering the success they've had with Gears of War on both the 360 and PC. Maybe we can expect more content?

From what I understand it comes down to the mod situation. They knew that Sony would let tem do mods so they went with the ps3 first. Hopefully they can work something out with microsoft.

It's MS's fault. Epic wanted UT3 to open and moddable like it is on the PC but MS isn't allowing it. Sony allows it with the PS3 but Live on the other hand is a very proprietary network and MS doesn't seem to want to help out Epic.

Yeah, I was thinking we may get extra exclusive content because it's Microsoft and the xbox and everything. who knows.

As others have said, Epic wants an open ended network to allow for mods, and while the PSN allows for this, XBL does not, not to mention keyboard and mouse support for the PS3 version. It's very understandable why Epic would put it on the PS3 first. They are allowed to create more of the experience that they want to make, and on the 360, they don't yet know if they will be able to give mod support.

In regards to the Q2 08 release, the last interview by Mark Rein I read didn't allude to a release date, except to say it's coming, so I wouldn't count on the Q2 date just yet.

Now as we've said, the game is being released on the PC next week, and the PS3 later this year. But once and for all, will the game ever be out on the 360?

Mark Rein: Oh yeah, absolutely. Part of the reason for this is the Mods. The PS3 is an open system, and they embrace user-created content. But there isn't really a way to do that on the 360. So our job, when we finish the PS3 version, and we've taken a little break, is to sit down with Microsoft and to figure out how we can do Mods on their system.

So do you know when the 360 one might be out?

Mark Rein: No. We won't even start working on it until early next year.

This whole thing is a little more complicated: * First MS is well known (especially by epic) not to be fond of free content on live let alone user content so thats something which epic still hasnt settled with them yet * When you make a game on the 360, you use LIVE.... thats it, on the PS3 you can use whatever you want and in this case (and on the PC) the PS3 uses Gamespy vs PSN. * But there is more, Epic needed to get a PS3 version out early because it was their middleware which was directly causing issues with so many PS3 titles so by getting this one done and finished they can get the middleware to where it was supposed to be 6months ago. * Last but not least, with Home on the PS3 it allows Epic to use its party system to setup quick games among other things, that isnt preset on live yet.

Yup, I pre-ordered my copy. I love that Sony is allowing an open network for user-created mods. I have the PC version, but the community is very dead, which is odd for UT. I hope more PS3 gamers will get into it, since there's not anything on the PS3 like it.

Yeah, I'm thinking about buying this and reserving a copy of UT3 for the PS3!
