Is this possible? I would like to know if anyone knows how to use your laptop as a "tv" as in use the monitor on my laptop as a means to play xbox 360 on. Can the xbox 360 be hooked up to the laptop or am I just thinking crazy?

There are always these options

And of course, there are the PCMCIA

As to which one is better, that is something you will have to investigate, the worst possible thing be lag. There are other brands as well, a trip to your computer store might be good, just ask for either a USB or PCMCIA TV card, many allow your computer to become a DVR.

Yes, because the VGA port in your laptop is output only.

THe problem wih those tv tuners, especially the usb one is that theres usually lag. I tried to do this when I first got the tv tuner for my laptop and there's about a 2 second difference. The pcmci option mite be different tho.

This thread might bedead or dying but its just what i want so i'll try and drag it back to your attention.

Thing is i'll be heading off to uni this september and it would save me a lot of cash to buy a laptop and use it as a tv for my 360. so the thing i'm wondering is what level of tech do i need in the laptop? for example am i looking at needing over 3GB of RAM and will my processor need to be the fastest my budget can get? or is this less important as its just working as a tv not processing anything?

and i've heard the PCMCIA do work better than usb but i can't say if it'll eliminate the lag problems...

(and no i don't understand tech stuff either i can just pass it off cos i've spent the last 3 days looking at laptop specs)

No level of tech will help, all you will need is a capture card that has no lag(make sure, because most have a delay) and a computer that meets the minimum requirements, but it will still be only 480i, so a better solution would be to just get a monitor from somewhere like newegg.com or tigerdirect.com, it will run you around $150-200, which is about what you would pay for a good tv card anyways, and you would be able to play in HD. Acer is a really good, affordable brand, I got a 20" widescreen LCD Acer, and I use it for an external moritor for my laptop so I don't have to look at the 15" screen all the time. I also use it for my 360, and it looks great.
