Does anyone know if this is something that can be done? I might pick up a playstation if this can be done (stock not 3rd party accessories/adapter)
Not sure but I would say it's probably doubtful. Sony decides which bluetooth controllers it supports on the PS4 (it's why we still can't use the great PS3 media remote with the PS4, even though it's bluetooth). So it's very doubtful they will support an Xbox One controller in their software.

yeah can be done, you need an adapter called cronusmax. I have it, but I use to use a ps4 controller on my xboxone (sometimes). It does work the other way around as well, even works with wii.

This one ?
Interesting device, I may get one but to use my X1 controller on the PoS4.

yeah that's it.
@commander: I was thinking of that device when I first saw this post a while back, but the OP stated no adapters so it didn't really fit his need.
I am curious how well it works for you and if you had any difficulty setting it up. I would prefer to use my X1 controller on my PS4 as well.

works pretty good, but you need another controller for your mic , at least that's the case on the xboxone. What the adapter does is authenticate with a x1 controller on the xbox one, then i plug in my ps4 controller. as long as I want to use my ps4 controller I cannot use that x1 controller that I authenticated with, but I have multiple controllers so that's not an issue with me.
So it works pretty much flawlessly besides the mic support, that's why I need that other x1 controller to chat. It's a workaround if you don't have third party mics, I don't know if this workaround works on the ps4, I actually bought this because I like the ps4 controller better for single player games, the triggers are softer and the controller is lighter as well, especially when I take out the rumblers, then it's simply light as feather and better for those long gaming sessions (to me anyway)
I don't have a ps4 though, so I cannot try it on the ps4 for you, but the device has pretty good brand name, it already exists for quite some time, and has free updates, so you won't have any problems.
It does a lot more than being an adapter as well, (which works with x360, ps3 and wii as well btw) you can add programming to the adapter too, like turbo, switch buttons, give button sequences to a button and it's all pretty easy. Quite a nifty thing actually but it's not exactly cheap either, mine was about 60 euros, so I presume that's going to be around 60$ for you.
Oh yeah that's right the op said no third party accessoires or adapter, well I kinda missed that. I thought it was obvious that controllers for consoles are proprietary devices. Well i suppose he can make it work without an adapter, if he has some engineering skills to make the pcb from the ps4 controller work in a x1 controller but I think you will need a 3d printer for that...
