I'm curious if anyone on this forum has ever captured footage of their XBox 360 directly onto their PC. I'm not talking with a camcorder, I mean a direct feed from their TV to their PC. I enjoy producing video reviews for games, but up until now I've been using stock video off the Internet. I want to create my own for once. First off is it even possible? I don't know, but that's what I've been trying to figure out.

Hardware-wise, I have an HDTV (ie. it supports HDMI, all the color connectors, etc.) an XBox 360 (not an elite, so mine doesn't support HDMI), and I have an ATI Radeon 2600XT, which is fairly top of the line in regards to video cards. Basically hardware isn't too much of an issue.... I just need to figure out how I can get it all to work, if at all.

Has anyone done this before or know of a site that mentions how? I could easiely do it with my camcorder, but camcorder's equal poor quality.

yea if what ur trying to do is capture live from ur 360. What u need to do is have something with a line in that comes from the 360 and than 2 lines out that goes to the capture card and than ur t.v. or w.e u use to play the games on. Another thing you could do is just get the capture card and if u have saved films like in halo 3 than just record without having to use the splitter.

I just started to capture some of my gameplay to make a video so i hope urs turns out good.

your video card should have a VIVO port, which means video in video out, and should come with several cables for it. The VIVO port looks like an S-Video connection however only the cables that came with the card will fit. If you don't have cables you can order them off the ATI webiste. I would suggest, as suggested before, getting a cable that will split the signal into two so you can play on your tv while recording, there tends to be a delay while your computer processes and displays the signal giving you some lag which makes it hard to play and therefore show off a game well. A cable that splits the signal can be bought at a local electronics store and shouldn't cost much at all. As for software you can use virtualdub, it's free and lets you record and somewhat edit the video but windows movie maker is a video editing tool that's free as well. Since you've been using stock video already you probably have a program for editing and any good one should beable to capture video directly anyway.

I use a tool called the Dazzle, it is a little expensive and you can't record while in HD, but it works pretty good.

Alright, yea my ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT has VIVO and it came with a usb looking connector with three protruding cables (red, green, and blue). According to my ATI help guide, it says this about video capturing:

So basically, my video card already has capture capabilities, so I don't need a capture card, right?

As for a "cable that splits the signal," is this the only thing I need then? What's the name for it or does someone have a picture off the net or a description they can give so I know what to look for? According to the guide I think it's the cable with the two white connectors, but I could be wrong.

I tried plugging my 360's red, green, and blue connectors into the corresponding colors in the back of my video card, but that didn't seem to do anything.

HD Capture Card
You need a ton of space for HD. I think it around 1g for every 10 sec. I believe this is the one Major Nelson uses.
