Is it possible for a 360 to get a virus? My 360 has been acting really slow and laggy lately, especially when i'm at the dashboard, it lags the most when i switch between different things on the dashboard, it even gets so bad that it will completely freeze up and stay in the same place for a about 15 sec. Is it possible my 360 has like a virus?DCca13SAME THING HAPPENS TO ME BUT ONLY WEN IM SINGED ON TO LIVE WEN IM NOT CONNECTED TO IT ITS SUPER FAST(sorry for uppercase i had caps lock on and didnt notice until now lol)
i'm curious, what about the wii or ps3, they have web browsers? they said MAcs Os would never get one, but it did, could it be possible?starmovski
Its not possible to get a virus on PS3, Wii or 360 since the only binaries you can run are binaries that are signed.
And since none of the 3 consoles can run unsigned code yet. You cant get a virus.
Yes it is possible to get a virus. There is actually a person who filed a 5million dollar lawsuit over halo "bricking " his 360.

A five million dollar lawsuit, for his 360 breaking? And this is somehow evidence that the 360 can get a virus? That's ridiculous for at least three reasons:
1.) Halo, or any other game, can't brick your 360. Chances are he put Halo 3 into his machine and he got the three red lights - this would have happened regardless of the game in the drive, it's just a coincidence. Correlation does not imply causation.
2.) How does this mean there is a virus? Are you saying that embedded in the Halo 3 game code there is a virus that bricks 360s? In which case, why don't we all have this virus? Why just this guy's 360? Why would Bungie put that code there and destroy their reputation as a developer and scare people into not wanting to buy their game? Why would MS allow this to happen with their flagship game? Your logic is not sound.
3.) Five million dollars for a broken 360 that MS will probably fix for free? That's crazy - at most, a judge will award the price of the console, probably $400 because this is the extent of the financial damages suffered by the plaintiff. What's the other $4,999,600 for? The emotional damage of not having his 360 for a few weeks? Honestly, if you he is messed up that his 360 being broken does that much emotional damage, he probably shouldn't be playing games at all. He should be in an asylum.
The PS3 is actually a better console than the 360. The 360's online is much better as far as gaming goes if you can look past the possible bricking of your system(red ring) and you have to pay for it. The PS3 has an internet browser though it doesn't work well with certain functions. PS3s have better graphics than 360s but unless you are using 1080 i/p you'll never notice. I wish I had never traded my PS3 in on a 360 although the 360 is more gamer friendly and enjoyable to use. The PS3 comes wifi/ethernet/bluetooth ready no adapters needed. Most of your usb/bluetooth earpieces work if you had one from PS2 or your cellphone bluetooth. You aren't limited to Microsoft only extras is what I'm sayingi.e. the cams, headsets, hard drives, things of that nature.PS3 can use keyboards, mouses, if you partition the HD you can put another operating system on it as well(I think linux and maybe certain mac osbut not certain I never did it). Well this is getting long, as an owner of both systems I prefer the PS3.tren
A) system wars.
B) too bad that they dont work well or not at all.
C) graphics are the same pretty much give or take draw distance or textures depending on the console.
D)so can the 360
Look I'm not starting a riot over this. My friend just had to send in his 360 due to a "Brick Virus" that he got while on Call of Duty 4's server playing online. I cant explain why I didn't get it as well since I was online playing cod4 with him at the time of his red ring. I then searched g4tv.com's "the feed" for xbox 360 brick virus and saw a lawsuit issue involving Halo3 look for your self.tren
uh huh. There is no virus, merely coincedence. your post mentioned nothing of virus, you were trolling or trying to get a rise out of ppl by stating why the ps3 is better in your opinion.
He asked about if the ps3 had an internet browser so i added a lil bit more.
I gave an opinion having actually owned both systems.
If some spaz sees it as anything other than an opinion then he himself wants a console war.
He already owns a 360 so why tell him what his **** can do.

lol, i dont want a console war, play which ever one you want that has the games you want to play. resorting to insults isnt going to get you anywhere. forums are for discussion are they not? your trolling, get over it.

Not anything more than what I was doing, responding to responses. Not trolling, just saw someone ask about something I answered, you missunderstood perhaps because I'm new on here. I am not familliar with all the buttons so to speak. If you were insulted I appologize. The person obviously had a 360 and asked a ps3 question. I not wanting to insult him didnt tell him how many freckles he has on his face if you catch my drift.
Ok, wow.
1. The 360 can get a virus, although the only way it is possible is for a game developer to put that virus on a downloadable game(the retail CDs will not work because the game is played directly from the cd/dvd and therfore does not touch the operationg system) and also microsft would have to miss the viruse when scanning the games they allow to be released, since as has already been said, all three consoles can only run signed programs at the moment.
2.The comment about the ps3 was completley unnecasary and should be deleated by a moderater, at no point did anyone ask for an oppinion as to which system is better. There is a place for that sort of comment and it is called the system wars forum.
3. I just thougth there should be a number three so I wrote this.

Thanks like I said I'm new, way at the top this quote is there" i'm curious, what about the wii or ps3, they have web browsers? they said MAcs Os would never get one, but it did, could it be possible? " I appologize for giving too much information to this person.
ya its the hard drive if its not the other problem , over heating, i noticed when i was down to 4 gb left. it was so slow it just took an hr to skip to the next songmariokart64fan
My friend's hd works fine in my system but he told me he got a brick virus from cod4 that red ringed his console it wasn't even a year old.

Never in your quote did anyone ask, which is better? they were concerned about a possible virus.
Ok I'll keep it simple this time I AM SORRY!tren
Dude, don't worry about it. We all started out somewhere:)
On a serious note. If you are online in multiplayer mode and a virus is planted into the game developer server in which you are playing on is it possible to get a brick virus on your console that way?tren
then a developer would be required to plant said virus. side note: most xbox live games run via p2p, no server involved. if there is a server (halo3/forza) is for stat tracking etc, your not actually playing on that server.
you couldnt leave well enough alone could you? yes admitting you should not of posted here is an admission of guilt, and i did say apology accepted in a no cliche way but apperntly your vocabulary is not broad enough to understand such complex language.PyroPice
I'm no genious but if you speak of vocabulary spell admission right in your first post. I see you corrected it in this one. And I'm a self admitted dumbass.

That might be what the lawsuit with halo is all about. does cod4 use a server? that was the game we were playing when he got the brick virus. they sent him a box to return it to them to fix and the ups people knew what it was b4 asking.
The only way I can see a user created virus infected a 360 is if someone somehow managed to hack the forge or some other map editor and secretly implant a exe. aht would run using the signed forge map as a dort of free pass, although as far as i know the forge has not been hacked yetPyroPice
that and they wouldnt be using .exe extensions.

I no but it might be possible to disguise a exe(as that is the most common form of virus) under whatever file extension haol maps use. I do not believe anyone has ever gotten a virus, i am just saying it might be possible with a skilled hacker but i really dont no.
Having a broad vocabulary and spelling correctly are entirely diffrent things, i do not claim myself to be a genious either, i was merely commenting on the fact that you could not understand the meaning of my acceptence of your apology, and apparently you acknowlege this as well, so all is well. May we quail our toungs and refain from curropting this forum.PyroPice
cool I was just ruffling your feathers either way.

possibly but im pretty sure that the maps etc are much the same as most. its just a set of parameters that are read by the game engine and then rendered as per parameters. I mean thats all the replays are, is game data being read and rendered by the engine, your not actually downloading the entire match.
it it possible that if you are using fiber optic connection are you possibly at greater risk of getting a virustren
:| .... yes coz we all know how faster internet makes your more susceptable to virus's.

that is true about game the replays they are basically just game dats, although the maps might be some sort of other extension as they were not part of the original games, therefore they are not technically built into the games engine, the diffrences might be to subtle to require a seperate exe as each forge map is just a variation of an original map, therefore it could just be the matter of some switching of some in game codes. Like I said Virus on a 360 is definatley not probable and at the moment is most likely immpossible unless Microsoft lets a virus loose over XBLA

nope, they are just the same as replays, just parameters. all your doing in forge is changing spawning/placements locations:(ie change location of rifle from X1,Z2 to Y1,W3. if you had a grid) and then the game engine just reads that change and moves/adds rifle. thats why you cant actually edit the map geometry itself. your not editing the map, just spawn locations etc.
