Was this game any good? I have to wonder because it seems to have very quickly dropped off the radar into obscurity. I find that odd considering the immense popularity of the original, which also happens to have been one of my favorite games on the original xbox. I'm guessing from the lack of buzz that it either sucked or was mediocre. Is it worth a rental at least?

Yes its definetly worth a rent. The main problem i had with it was the camera. Other then that, its better then the original and has some amazing combos that can be pulled off. I recommend it.
Bad camera, artistically void graphics, and the same punishing difficulty as the original game. Other than that, with better level design (sort of...still pretty damn barren and basic by today's standards), more enemies, more weapons, and more blood, it was still fun to play.
Just didn't do much for me in the end. I loved the original, this one felt like too much of the same thing - sort of an expansion about four years too late.
I'm an action fan so I love replaying these types of games, I would recommend it. Like the poster above said... it's an improvement over the original (which is one of my favorite games of all time.) I didn't really have any issues with the camera since I'm used to manually re-centering it with the trigger.
I got the demo the other day and uhhh it felt no more or no less like Shinobi for PS2, lol, the camera is god awful and it took me like 10 tries to run and jump across a wall, I'm pretty sure in other games with wall running mechanics (Sayyy prince of persia) I've never had to do more than 2 tries ever. My friend who is a stubborn masochist for horrible gameplay games as long as they are gory loved it though!
I actually like the insane difficulty of the original. although I can't believe they didn't fix the camera. It was horrible in the original, but I tolerated it because it was such a great game otherwise.
Gameplay wise it was a lot like the first. The camera could get in the way sometimes but usually was ok, the game is pretty easy (on easy and normal at least) unlike past Ninja Gaiden games (except for the DS one which I heard was also easy), the graphics for the environment doesn't look very good. It's at least worth a rental though.
the game is absolutely amazing. the camera is better than black, but again you have to adjust it occasionally, and get used to its quirks. the game is more intense, faster, bloodier and tougher than black.... and that's saying a lot.
It's a classic hack and slash with some cool moves and incredible amounts of gore. I wouldn't buy it full price, but definitely rent it for a week or so. You don't really need much more time with it before you get tired of it.
