I have been searching for a good game. Oblivion sounds really good from reviews, but what makes it stand out from the rest of the rpgs? From the online videos I saw, it doesn't seem that good. I know it is a free roaming, but could someone post a video that really shows off what this game has to offer? What makes me unsure about it is that it doesn't have online play. How does it make up for this? Lastly, what can you buy with the money you earn in the game? Thanks because I really need the help.

I don't like it.
But I can see why people do. Its among the best of all RPGs. Its massive, got a huge storyline, great RPG gameplay. I just don't like RPGs, so its not for me.

I see that it is thirty dollars and it just seems tempting to buy.

It is an excuisite game just to get lost in (metaphorically, of course). The only bad part is that most quests wind up being in caves/dungeons/secret areas of castles/dark places consisting mainly of rock. I bought the GOTY edition and I was in the same situation as you, I heard it was amazing, but no videos seemed to capture the essence.

I love it because you aren't forced to do anything except the tutorial, you get to find all kinds of loot, and it's a huge world. It's exactly the kind of game that I like.

Way to open-ended and the actual storyline is EXTREMELY short. I didn't care for it, I like more structure and story when I play games.

I played it for about 3 days and then returned it, never looked back.

Well, why i like it? maybe becuse i played it for 200 hours to beat all the quests? maybe because i've been playing it for another 50 hours since i discovered the way of the alchimist archer? maybe because no mather what you do, there's still something else to do? because the atmosphere is SO inmersive that you can play it for hours and hours without getting bored?

This was my first game for the 360, i bought it in july 2006, and i still play it for at least 30 minutes a day, some say: "oh the main quest is too short! you can beat it in 10 hours!" just like the guy with the Gordon image, but they didnt see the correct way to play the game, its not about raiding dungeons with torch and sword in hand like a retard its about finding your own way, you can play ala Metal Gear Solid, you can poison arrows with poisons YOU made, then vanish in the shadows while your enemy dies, or you can create your own custom spells or even enchant items/armor/weapons, this game is about freedom TC, you can do everything(and i mark EVERYTHING) you ever imagined in a fantasy RPG, if you dont buy it, you'll miss the best First Person RPG game ever made, you dont believe me? check youtube.com for some gameplay vids, try things like "Oblivion fun", or go to the Oblivion forums and ask people there.

Man, Oblivion is one of the best games out there, not even restricting it to the RPG genre.

If you want to see Oblivion videos, go to youtube.

How could anyone complain about the story being short? The game offers hundreds of hours of gameplay. The main questline isn't SUPER long but once thats finished, you got three guilds to join with just as good of a story (even better in the case of the Dark Brotherhood) than the main questline. Then, besides those.. there are multiple dozens of free-roam, deadric and misc. quests that you can complete whenever you want that all offer great rewards and items. Plus if you get the GOTY edition you get another 30-40 hours worth of gameplay on the Shivering Isles exp. and another 8 or so in the KOTN add on.

So I don't think anyone should complain about "length" in this game.

To the TC, if you want a game that you can play at your own pace and like being absorbed into a game set in a fantasy type world (Much like LOTR) then this game is for you.

If you want a game like Call of Duty 4 or Halo 3, for online play.. this obviously isn't for you.

Oh and the things you can buy with the Gold you get in the game are countless.. you can buy your own castles, horses, wizards towers, spells, weapons, armour, houses, ingredients for alchemy.. and tons of other stuff.

Yeah great_rulo 2 quick questions.

1. What does TC mean?

2. What can you do besides kill things and roam. A lot of people say it is a great game, but I have found any information about why it is and what else you can do in the game. Thanks.

You can explore the inmense world without loading times, you can harvest items and use them with the alchimist skill to create poisons/potions, the way you said it makes it sound really dumb, its not about killing "things" with maces and swords, its about creating your own way to play it, didnt you see my first post?

At first it doesnt look that great but it is one of the best RPGs made. Its a game where you completely choose what you want to do. You can break into people homes and shops and take everything they have and fence it off, and eventually you can join a thieves guild. You can also just kill people for no reason and there isnt respawning characters so you can almost kill everbody in the game (except for important people thyat help progress the story), then eventually you can join an assassins guild. You can join the mages guild and work your way through the guild until you eventually become the head of the Mages Academy(forgot what the name of the school is). Join a fighters guild and rank up by doing missions. You can fight your way through the ranks in the arena until you are the champion. You can join a cult and do missions for the cult's several gods. You can do the main story line (but keep in mind, even though the main story line is short there are about 10 sub story lines that are longer than main story line). Or you can just explore the 200 dungeons they scattered throughout the world. The game also has a lot of downloadable content, but I think all of the downloadable content come in the GOTY edition. As far as what you can buy in the game, pretty much anything houses, armor, weapons, regular clothes, potions, spells, ingredients to make potions, drugs(skuma), alcohol, horses, furniture, food, books(all readable as well), etc.. Also I have invested over 150 hours into the game and I still have not found every quest, so its a really long game.

i love this game, and the main story isnt extremely short, depending on how you play it. In side quests v. main quest its relatively short because there are hundreds of side quests, but it will still take 30+ to do it if you do it completely. Though if you go ballz out and dont care about getting everything you can do it pretty freakin' fast. When you take your time to go through everything it never ends, and thats what i enjoy about it. Theres always something else you can do or somewhere else you can go. Plus theres a load of downloaded content. The only real problem i have is how repetitive it is. Once you've been through a cave, dungeon, or oblivion plain once, the rest all look the same. But alas, words and videos can't really get it all, so rent it first and see how you like it. i'd highly recommend it

Oh, let me correct myself from my previous post; I said you could spend gold in the game on "the wizards tower and castle", thats actually DLC so you don't spend the money in the game on it.

Just clearing that up.

TC means Topic Creator, you for example, you can do anything, i already told you, swim, battle in the arena, walk through the world, finish quests, buy armor, weapons, items and everything you can imagine in the main cities, enter Oblivion gates for some creepy action, raid dungeons for some loot, become a vampire, buy houses, talk to NPCs, eat, do alchimy.

You can explore an endless number of caves, forts, castles, and the like. You can pick the lock on someone's house and break in. You can then steal things or even murder the homeowner if they are home. And if you're caught? It's off to jail to serve a sentence that fits your crime. You can then either break out or serve your sentence. Of course, you can also either pay the guards off or resist arrest altogether. My personal favorite is the Dark Brotherhood. This is an entirely seperate questline from the main questline. You are an agent that kills for a living, and you get bonuses for doing it a certain way. These are just a few of the many things you can do for hours on end. Go out and buy Oblivion now if you have any common sense.

I have to say that the best thing about this game is the feling you get when you are exploring new areas or finding new items such as Umbra. I also love the music! It adds to the whole "Im by myself exploring this land and fighting evil" theme and the devolpers made it so its just fun to replay over and over so i mean you can have quite along time actually enjoying this game.

I agree, the music is great, though the themes in Morrowind were better, look for "Morrowind soundtrack" in youtube if you dont believe me, also look for "March unto death" for the best song of the crator of both soundtracks.

Not a lot to be honest. I tried it on X360, and didn't go for it at all. Grabed it on PC from the bargain bit, and tried again but still didnt get into it.

I was sort off enjoying it, until I found out that all the badies level up with your character. Doesnt matter if your level 1 or level 60 as everything else will be the same, Kinda took the fun out of it for me. I may try again some day though.

Its a game you can turn on and just play. You can just run around and do nothing or you can pick any quest and do it. I found it great. Have about 300hrs or more on that game.

I bought the game last year and have not finished it. That is a good thing because I got lost in other quest that made it feel like I was playing 4 different storys at once. Get the game it is really good I don't even like rpg games but I loved this game you won't be disappointed.
