There must be something about CoD4 that I just don't get. I thought it was good and all, but not something I would consider one of the best games I have ever played.
I got Mass Effect for Christmas, and it is pretty fun.
And yeah, I think Halo3 is the biggest let down of '07.

I feel the same way as you about COD4. The single player was good, but the multiplayer to me is just so shallow. The unlockables and challenges are in the multiplayer to hide how shallow the actual game is.
HALO 3!!! YEAH HALO!!! WHOO HOO HALO!!!
I'm just kidding, there will probably be 100 people that reply to that without reading the rest. Although I love Halo 3 it didn't live up to the hype simply because there was SO MUCH hype. They had Halo 3 Mountain Dew for christ's sake!
My real answer would be Bioshock and Call of Duty 4. Both amazing games and both exceeded my expectations.
I would say none of them for me. Of course, I usually try to find all the information I can about games that I am plannign to buy.
Halo 3 did not have a very good map editor, the story wasn't good, and co-op was fun but way to easy with more than one person. Also, I thought that the online maps were just horrible for the most part.
Bioshock was good but the actual gameplay just wasn't fun, also it had a horrible ending. Plasmids were not very interesting and most people felt nothing letting the sisters die or killing them. Big Daddy fights were awful and easy (even when the game is on high and you don't use the chambers).
Mass Effect came close but had too many technical problems, horrible driving and AI, and many of the sidequests were boring. One of the big things about it was visiting planets but those eneded up not being interesting and just using recycled environments (not to mention having to drive to get around).
Orange Box I didn't see hyped all that much. I got what I expected from it but I never really heard all that much. I guess I would say Orange Box or Call of Duty 4, though I never really heard about them really doing anything new or exciting with their games.
I thought COD4 did, but I was dissapointed by assassins creed somewhat but it was still a pretty good game.

dude that mountain dew was good tho
I think out of all the games mentioned, rock band exceeded my expectations for sure. CoD 4 was ok, but I still dont see the big deal. Bioshock was way too easy. Halo 3 was good, but there is no way in hell it could ever live up to its hype, I dont think any game could. Mass Effect was good, but it was extremely buggy too.
So for me I think Rock Band exceeded its hype.
Halo 3 because it is everything I thought it would be. Nothing more, yet nothing less.ligerz76
i agree with that guy^^
and its pretty funny to see how its a thread about which game DID live up to the hype yet people still feel the need to mention halo 3 as a "let down" and it "falls short"... hahahaha

i think people keep mentioning it becuase it was the most hyped game this year. i think it was good, but its hype was too big for almost any game to fill.
