The guitars on Rock Band were way too easy though. And the guitar kind of sucked. Plus, I didnt really lke the songs and thought there were too few. That game was actually a let down for me.

I personally dislike to judge a game according to its hype but CoD4 was just FPS perfection.

Games I think lived up to the hype: Heavenly Sword, Rock Band, Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4.

Games I think disappointed: Assassins Creed, Halo 3, Bioshock, Kane& Lynch.

I actually feel the need to take a stand against Bioshock here. The developers claimed that it was a game where you could set a trap for an army of mutants using electrical wire, tornadoes, and a crazed Big Daddy. Then somehow they must have decided to make the game less fun. They held off all the weapons that you wanted until very late in the game, and by the time you finally got what you wanted, the situation you could have used it best in had already passed. When you finally get all weapons and abilities, the game takes you out of the hallways and clutter where you can kill enemies cleverly and just has you run through two identical wide-open maps where pretty much all you can do is hack the security bots, snipe, or go in for melee since there's virtually nowhere to hide. I will hand it to the devs that they crafted a great story and setting, but the poor endings sent the story down the drain. After I was done with Bioshock I felt like I had played a less-fun Deus Ex.

But onto the topic at hand, Halo 3, Mass Effect, and Assassin's Creed all blew me away this year. Halo 3 had the best cinematography and ending of any FPS I had ever heard of, in addition to the series' great gameplay. Mass Effect is just all around brilliant (screw technical glitches, Bioware games ALWAYS have tons!). And Assassin's Creed went above and beyond the call of duty in making a truly unique gameplay experience. The number of games that lived up to their hype this year is unbeleivable. If only Bioshock had been one of them.

There were many games that were worse. And it did get a fair amount of hype, so he's right in saying it.

Orange Box has yet to stop amazing me for as long as I've had it, so its a favorite of mine.

I would have to ay all of the big hyped games. COD 4, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, The Orange Box... imo all of those games lived up to the hype. It was truly a great year to be a gamer and own a 360.

I thought Bioshock lived up to the hype because it didn't really look that good on the videos they posted. Yeah, the choice between killing the girls was not really that hard of a decision, but it was still fun. I do think the chambers kind of killed the game though. I was hoping the big daddy's would be ridiculous to fight, but they werent because of the chambers every 10 feet.

Bioshock (possibly better than the hype), Orange Box, Call Of Duty 4 (I didn't even care about this game when I heard about it, but it's REALLY frickin' good)...

Mass Effect is a really good game, but I think it falls just short of where it should've been. I love the game in spite of its flaws, but there's no denying that the game isn't as perfect as it could've been with maybe another quarter in the incubator.

bioshock, assassin's creed, and halo 3, but i didn't have any fantasies or any expectations at all for halo 3 because i really had never played a halo game and didn't know what made them so fun to others.

I'm gonna have to go with Call of Duty 4 and Mass Effect. Bioshock was okay by my standards. It wasn't all that revolutionary, but it was still a good game. Halo 3 was there just to kill time until COD4 came out. Assassin's Creed was very dissappointing due to its repetitive nature. I mean, come on, how many times can you scale tall buildings, pickpocket, eavesdrop, save citizens, and finally assassinate your target before it starts getting boring?

IMO, Orange Box was the best of the year. Between playing through HL2, the episodes & Portal, its kept me happily busy for a lot longer than other games.

I played through Bioshock once (for thepoints) but have no desire to play thru it again. The enemy variety is lacking and the feel of the weapons is not there, although it is very pretty and well scripted.COD4 is good, but not great (I dont understand the hype either).

Sadly, nothing as good as Gears of War in 2007 .....

Yeah, i honestly think that Gears of War is still teh best game on the Xbox 360. The Orange Box is right up there though, but Gears was just sooo amazingly fun.

i was never a fan of the halo series so i was questionable on buying halo 3. but i did and it turned out to be pretty sweet. but for games that truly live up to their hype id say bioshock for sure, it really drew you in and got quite intense at times. as mentioned assassins creed was really sweet but repetitive gameplay so id say bioshock definatly exceeded my expectations

Orange box defiantly lived up to its hype, everyone of its games are better than CoD4 these warfare fps's are getting way too old.

Also Mass Effect lived up to its hype and Halo 3 was ok.

Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect definitely have, Call of Duty 4 I think was actually underhyped, but Halo 3 was a real big letdown and got boring pretty quick.

I agree with you people on CoD4 and Bioshock but don't forget games like Eternal Sonata which I think is really one of the best in its cathegory. I'm still looking for a better RPG than that one + it has 3 player co-op and advanced and inovative combat system.

Everything but halo 3 basically,H3 was nothing but HYPE IMO.

Iv liked the halo's BUT mass effect BLEW IT AWAY B4 I even started the first mission IMO LOL !,AWSUM GAME!,& im still playing it unlike the WAY TO SHORT H3.

Bioshock also BLEW H3 AWAY & even the orange box.

Condemend still stands out to me with its amazing graphics & loved its gameplay, condemned 2 will be completely MIND BLOWING!.

Hated splintercell:double agent, lost planet was pretty good.

Speaking of HYPE?!, gears of war was a big let down for me,it was good but not all it was hyped up to be,also i seen as much of the loading screen as i did the game = VERRY ANNOYING.

Mass Effect. BioShock. Call of Duty 4. All of these are great games, but none of them really live up to the hype. The Orange Box is the only game that I was truly amazed by. It's the only game that really lived up to the hype.

So besides the four that people keep saying, what else do you think lived up to the hype or exceeded them.

I thought the Darkness was incredibly fun. Splinter Cell Double Agent was a lot better than I thought it would be too.
