What shooters are better than the Halo games?

HALO is a superb console shooter but as we have seen when it comes to the FPS domain (PC) it doesnt stand a chance with the big boys. Such as:

HalfLife 1/2

Counter Strike

Battle Field (any)

FEAR

Call Of Duty 1/2 and UO

Medal Of Honour (any)

Aliens Vs Predator 2

Unreal Tournament (any)

Star Siege Tribes

Quake 1/2/3/4

DOOM 1/2/3

Dont get me wrong Halo is great for consoles, but its gonna get tough competion this gen since the BIG BOYS are dropping in on the 360 to say 'Hey you call that a GUN, This is a GUN'.

Not being a former Original Xbox owner, when I was thinking of getting an Xbox 360 most of what I heard when discussing whether or not I should get the console was Halo, Halo, Halo. So after I got my Xbox 360 I went and played a little of the Halo games & I agree I don't understand what the fuss is about. Yes they all are really great games, but not that overwelming.

Shawn console gamers didnt get a lot of great FPS games so when a great one comes out people are ver HAPPY, BUT that doesnt mean its the best FPS period IMO its one of the best CONSOLE SHOOTERS but its not in the top ten FPS games.

I think Halo 2 is so popular, is because it IS a Tipical Shooter. It can apeal to more than just hardcore FPS fans, or soft core FPS. Unreal Tournament is the king of FPS, it's gameplay is built on accuracy, tactics, and skill. Nothing will ever surpass it.Warlock89

I can't argue with that. Also I would like to throw Half-Life 2 in there as being better then Halo.

99.9% of the time most of these people who bad mouth halo are low average halo players who cant even keep the cursor in the middle of the screen..1% of the other people just dont belong in this country.OoSuperMarioO

gears is a really good shooter as you should have heard

shadowrun is really good, better than halos mp but it doesn't have a camplaign

Fear on PC was great. Hell read the PC review.

I think he means PC FPS standards are higher, obviusly. I mean FPS has been on PC for 17 years now......

PC is home to the genre defining shooters, and is the staple of genre. Games like Crysis nowdays show the leaps in progress in the genre that PC offers.

GOW does make Halo look bad because your comparing this-gen with last-gen. Wait till Halo 3 comes out for this generation of games and if people still think it is a pile of crap, then so be it.Any game on Xbox compared to any game on Xbox360 is ridiculous due to all the new upgraded technology. BTW for Halo not having next-gen graphics for the first 2 games it is still giving all 360 games a run for their money online.

Anyways, there are plenty of FPS that are great that do nothave Halo in the title. Imo Call of Juarez is a fun FPS. If your not sure just rent first.

I found the H3 beta to be extremely lackluster. 4/10 tops from me. I don't get why fanboys are orgasming over it, it doesn't seem special in any way, at least on the MP beta end, can't speak to the singleplayer.

halo isnt overrated, its underappreciated by ppl who only played it cuz someone told them its the best game in world (and it isnt)

hey i dunno if anybody cares but im the dude who started this post and i went out and bought call of duty 3--half life 2--and played a lot of my friends battlefield 2142 because vista doesn't like it on my pc--and heres my thoughts--you people who say oh everything is better than halo are out of you're minds--call of duty: impressive, enjoyed it very much, but halo is still more fun--Half life 2: loved the gameplay and story, cool weapons, ALMOST liked it as much as halo, but not quite--battlefield: now this i really liked but this is a very different type of shooter than halo--much bigger maps, cooler vehicles and weapons, this really is a great game--but im not about to say its better or worse than halo because theyre two differen't types of shooters--similar to gears of war which is personally my favorite shooter ever--i wouldn't compare it to halo because theyre completely different games--well other than that thanks for the input folks i enjoyed reading what you had to say

I don't need to provide reasons for why i do or do not like a game. It's black or white, I either like it or I don't. I didn't like the Halo 3 beta. Deal with it. It's been so long since this thread was alive, I've forgotten if I've mentioned it or not.... but I've always thought of Halo as a subpar Unreal myself. PC shooters really put 99% of console shooters to shame, imo. But that's just me, so who cares? :)

Perfect Dark Zero, GRAW, and BF2 come to mind. Not much of a console shooter.

Having an "orgasming" over it?

There are a number of superior multiplayer shooters, especially on the PC platform. I don't know of any console shooters that are better, though, especially in regard to single player.

I totally agree. PC Platform has tons of better FPS games, sucha as Quake 4, Half Life 2, FEAR, etc.

But as far as the console FPS, Halo Series is one of the best, also The old school of Timesplitters, I am still a long lost fan of.
