What was the most over hyped and over rated game you ever played??

So far, the Halo 3 BETA. Granted it is only a BETA though.

But to the people raving about it, I can't see what you love about it. It's average.

A Battlefield 2 set in the future at best. 

Gears.

I would have to say MGS3. Absolutely archaic gameplay and design, coupled with some of the worst game characters I've ever seen in a videogame makes for a terrible experience.

 MGS1 blows this game away in every way shape and form.

But thats just the most resent over rated and over hyped game, and another thats the most over hyped:

GTA: San Andreas

I baught it for the PC because some people in college where hyping it up, then i thaught i might aswell since its rated superb, I got it home and damn how upset was i, after a half hour i got board then unistalled it and continued playing CSS. The game just makes me wonder what these console junkies actualy think is a great game becuase if this is the best the PS2 n XBOX has then id hate to see the rest of their games collection.

R6 is a brilliant game, u probably dont like it because it takes some sought of intelligence, something u lack it seems

I said the beta and not because of graphics, but because it was halo 2 with 2 new guns....and it takes forever to find a match

I would say Halo 3 Beta. Was so pumped to play it and it seems almost identical to Halo 2...weapons, graphics, etc. Don't get me wrong, still going to pick it up for the single player...but not the end all of Xbox 360 games like I thought it was going to be.mdbuchman

After playing the original MGS, I expected an evolution in the gameplay, but there were virtually no changes. Hell, you can't even run diagonally.

The story was okay, but I thought the characters were awful. As an example, the Fear just yells, "The Fear!!, The Fear!!", over and over again. Also, there is no way that I could get into a game in which one of the bad guys meows at you (Ocelot). I was used to MGS being over the top, but this game bordered on ridiculous. 

Overhyped: Red Steel.  Everybody talked about this like it was going to turn the world around and set a new standard for FPS on a console.  That sure worked out.

Overrated: Halo series(minus the multiplayer) Halo set a new standard for online gaming on consoles, but the campaign is a little better than average at best.

Hmm...THPS3, THPS2, Oblivion, Halo, Halo 2, Gears, every GTA. Twilight Princess also deserves a special mention. Strange that I found the 3 major games last year to be very overrated.

Yup played the Beta.  Never said it was bad though..?  Were you talking about other people?  Just saying for all the hype thought it would be alot better....again, not saying it was bad just not up to what I thought.  I know there were some tweaks and updates...but (in my opinion) it just felt to much like Halo 1 & 2.

Back on the topic, I have to also put in my two cents for GOW.  Again, fun but not what I was expecting.

Halo 2 was simply stunning back when it came out. The online play wasn't matched by any other game on the Xbox at the time.

EDIT: Forgot to put my overrated game. :P  My vote would go to PDZ...it was hyped a lot when it released so I got it a few days after it came out...and I couldn't have been more surprised at how bad it was.
