I'd say COD 4 has the best gameplay. Halo has the best community aspect (Forge, bungie support etc) I never really played Gears, it was fun, but I was a Rainbow 6 vegas boy myself, and I would rate that very high.
As for Mr. Half life, that game may have been good when it first arrived, but on consoles as part of TOB it was overrated and (IMO) bland
I would have to say that Gears of War is the best out of the three because it is orignial and has great weapons. Then Halo 3 for pretty much the same reasons. I don't think that Call of Duty 4 was that great because first the campain was way too short and second there have been so many modern war games that it just does not stand out.
There is no best out of them as they are all different, it's like asking "whats best an apple or an orange?", this is just flame bait plain and simple.

The expansions and Portal are great, but the multiplayer kind of sucks (Or at least it did the last time I played it, maybe the lag isn't game-crippling anymore). I prefer Gears, the action feels a lot more intense than any other game.

I agree, although Gears isnt an fps.
But gears, very repetitive mediocre single player.
Call of duty 4, same shooting gallery single player as the last 3 games, so it kinda gets very tiresome now with a fourth game and the same gameplay but with a new paint job.
Halo 3, a pretty standard sci fi story and fps game. I enjoyed the vehicle sequences in coop, but other then that, very bland game.
all completely different games, cod4 is best for playing for yourself, halo 3 is best for community aspects, and gears has a brutal charm of its own, even if the achievements in my opinion are impossible.
