This is how it is:Â
Â
1. Tekken
2. Virtua Fighter (close second)
3. Dead or Alive (and that's a very distant 3rd).Â
Â
--Tekken is the only reason my PS2 is still getting regular use. Best fighting game out there.
--Virtua Fighter has always been great, and the new release should be even better.
--Dead or Alive is by far the worst fighting game to ever be released. Period.

I'm partial to Tekken because I played every one, and it has a wooden dummy and a panda and a raptor and kangaroo in it.
I think Virtua Fighter is too run of the mill... when I first saw it in the arcades many years ago, I thought it was really cool but I just don't think it's exceptional anymore.
I think DOA4 is deliberately maddeningly difficult, but I like it apart from that. I'd rate that second.Â
First = Virtua Fighter
Second = Tekken
Third = Dead or Alive

Wow, that's a big call putting Virtua Fighter ahead of Tekken. What are your reasons for that?
Putting Dead or Alive in third place is, well, completely reasonable and justified to say the least.

Well, when you played fighting games alot, you will note that virtua fighter got some huge depth to it and unlike tekken (which also got some good depth to it) got more or less, perfect balance between all the characters. And of course it's a matter of taste, perfect balance vs. tekkens pretty powerful rooster :P

I totally disagree. DOA4 has multi-tiered stages and online fighting. Tekken was good on PS1, but it has stagnated. Virtua Fighter is also an old fighter that needs re-inventing. The art design in Tekken and VF is mediocre. DOA4 is beautiful in every way.
Â
The real reason that it is en vogue to dis DOA is that it has hot babes and it is on Xbox. It's very easy for cows to insult since the've never played it.
If you want an honest opinion...it depends what you like. Virtua Fighter is the most rewarding after a continuous amount of practice. Virtua Fighter 5 has the best graphics and animation out of all of them also. It isn't as flashy as either Tekken or DOA, but it is definately the most balanced fighting game in existence. It's for hardcore fighters. DOA is not very deep. The last installment is easily the best, though. The whole multi-teired thing has always come off as a gimmick to make up for good gamelplay, but again, the last one was really good. Tecmo is doing their homework. Tekken lies in the middle. It's always been a solid fighter and recently added some very nice graphics and some customizing features they flat out stole from Virtua Fighter. All three are worth owning if you're a fighting fan like me. I hope this has helped.
