It allows for audio and video to be transmitted in a single wire. So it's got a lot to do with ease. It also incorporates HDCP so movie makers love it. :) Video quality wise it's no better than component..

It transmit the picture digitally. This is especially good for HDTVs, since most are digital displays. So, it transmit a pixel for pixel perfect image from the 360(or something with HDMI) to the HDTV. That being said, component still looks amazing. I doubt if many people could tell the difference between HDMI and component. I have my 360 hooked up by component and PS3 by HDMI. I don't think one looks better than the other.

The HDMI 1.3 standard supports a new color space (xvYCC) and Deep Color (48 bits). 48 bit color means 16 bits per color up from the 8 bits now. Problem is most TV's are just now adding 10 bit processing, though some LCD's are going up to 14 bit. However, current TV's most definitly are still based on the RGB color space, and even once that starts to change, you can't just abandon the RGB color space en-mass (and all the TV's that use it) to make room for a slightly better one...

[Bottom Line] HDMI won't start to shine until at least 4 or 5 years down the road.

There is not any big difference between them as far as picture quality goes. But HDMI is future proof and it has both picture and sound in the same cable which is handy.

I run my 360 and HD-DVD through monster cables and the picture is flawless, I also have an HD Tv cable box with a high quality HDMI cable and there I can't see any difference.

Dvi and HDMI are the exact same thing it's just HDMI carries sound. When your using a pure digital signal like HDMI or Dvi and a 1080p projector like the Sony VW50 (The one I own) and a 150 Inch projector screen there is a dramatic difference, on my 32 inch in the living room however Hdmi still produces a better signal but not a whole lot different from the component. This is false from being a serious geek testing out many televisions I can prove HDMI/Dvi have a overall better picture then component/VGA.

correct me if I'm wrong but componet can not do 1080p right? Only HDMI/DVI can do that.

HDMI is crisper than component because it is all digital and the colors are even more vibrant. I work with tv's so I know the difference it makes and it is worth it if you buy an expensive tv to use the HDMI.

Incorrect, Component and VGA can do 1080p just fine but with a digital signal there picture will be more realistic and overall better quality then either.
