What's your opinion on melee in Halo3?

So I just started Live the other day and it seems to me a lot of guys just love to melee. I personally love using the BR and keeping some distance but when I played w/ a bunch of friends the other day, a LOT of them just LOVED using the melee. Run at me, shoot AR, melee. It really began to tick me off and I was just wondering how you guys feel about the melee in Halo? do you find it spammed too much? fair? or do you think its too "noobish"? etc..

hope I'm not the only one who hates the melee (yes I do understand I can do it too, just it seems like such an easy way out)

it's the way of life in Halo 3. just shoot for a few seconds as you approach them, then slap them in the face once you get close.

exactly, anyone who says COD 4 is a melee game isn't the brightest.......took me forever to get that 3 melee kill streak in COD 4

hate getting meleed now. It feels so good when you see someone who is clearly trying to go melee you and you just back away and kill them w/ the BR. priceless :)

Sometimes the melee just infuriates me.

I just really hate it when I come up on a guy and start shooting him first, he starts shooting back and melees me just before I can get them. I also hate when I'm backing off from a guy so I don't get hit and somehow he comes flying at me like he grew wings and hits me.

I really like the melee. I mean, there's nothing more annoying that losing a fight because you're timing of pressing B was slightly off, but I think the excitement that creates is sort of worth it. I don't play on Live much, so I can't say I've had to handle all the noobs spamming it. But I like the melee a lot. Call of Duty's melee is too hard to get kills with, but it's still not bad. Just different games really.

very very annoying sometimes. i like it when it comes to assassinations and stuff like that, but nothing makes me more mad that to light a guy up with a battle rifle in the face and the die because he ran up on me and punch me.linkinSOXecho

I used to HATE it. Im used to it now but if I melee them aswell but it doesnt register, it pisses me off.

I still think its over-rated and mediocre though.

The melee is perfect in halo 3, except for the simultaneous strikes glitch.

The melee is as powerful as it is due to a balance issue. If someone comes at you with Dual maulers, and you just spawned with an Assault rifle, you need something that can even the odds a little bit, thus the melee. It's not cheap. It's not broken, it's balanced.

one thing that p*sses me off and i think is way too powerful now is the needler. i know that in the last games it was too weak, but in halo 3 its way too powerful. i mean if u get hit by like four needles u die, even if u have a full shield, and on top of that, the needles lock on to u. its ridiculous how much more powerful they made that gun from previous halos_SOULtoSQUEEZE_

it's a good thing that it's not dual wieldable. lol. Anyway, I personally like the change, it used to be a joke weapon, now it is a semi-power weapon.

yeah i know, its really annoying. honestly, as far as mid range weapons go, its probably the most powerful weapon. they either need to make it do less damage or make it to where the bullets dont lock on, but the combination of both of them just make it way too powerful.

except for if the person you are trying to kill has a BR or anything and is shooting you, halo 3 does not equal to press B and win...halo 3 = get some skill to win......you obviously suck at halo 3

I think that Melee AND grenades are way overpowering in Halo 3. I try to avoid a lot of meleeing unless I absolutely have to. Sometimes we all go through the 'WTF? I hit him first and I die?' periods. It is more frustrating than anything else.

I can't stand to play Halo 3 much anymore because there are so many grenade chuckers; especially at places like Guardian and Snowbound. grenades arent overpowered, it takes two frags to kill someone w/ a full shield, and honestly if u get stuck by a grenade, and u still lived, that would be really stupid. i dont see how u can say grenades are overpowered. if it took like 4 grenades to kill someone that would just be ridiculous.

Said absolutely perfectly!!! I was online last night in Halo 3 for "1" match in rumble pit and everyone had swords and grenades were being spammed everywhere. I started to back up from the explosions and this guy comes flying at me from halfway across the map (small exageration) and kills me with the sword. When I caught someone off guard I figured heck, I'll give it a try. Nope, I was still about 3 swings away from death. No miracle leap for me.

I don't know how it looks from the other persons perspective but I don't believe I have ever found the Red Bull orb and flew across the room and killed someone by melee.

I find melee in COD 4 too be as broken as Halo 3 melee.

They just bum rush me, and knife me, which is a weapon that gets a auto-kill, and too fast to dodge.

Also its easy to avoid melee in Halo, just go in close, then when the enemy tries to melee you move backward. He can't go faster then you if you are moving the same speed away from him.

As for the "miracle" of flying at you with a sword, it just takes a little know how. All you have to do is face an opponent, jump in the air and do a an attack and you will shoot down towards them. Here's a little tip, if you have a sword and are trying to kill someone else with a sword, don't pull your right trigger, use your melee attack button, it will only give you a little damage and will mostly block their sword attack. It's actually a faster attack than pulling the trigger.

As far as the melee attack goes, you just have to learn a lot of different skills. If you're a good sniper, your not going to win a lot. You just have to accept the fact you need to snipe, shoot, melee, drive vehicles, jack vehicles. The better players can do it all. So instead of hoping for an update to tip the scales in your favor because you can't melee, just practice it and you'll find it's not bad when you're not on the receiving end!

I don't really mind the melee, but I hate it when I get assaianated. I'm always on a killing spree, and then some wuss has to sneak up on you and punch you in the back.
