I know it's really picky, but I think scrolling up instead of sideways might bother me for awhile until I get used to it :P Netflix is free? I didn't know that..is it an actual Netflix account or just for watching movies on the 360?-Montauk-
From what they said in the press conference, you can have up to 4 friends watching the movie you pick on netfix.
And I played that part of the video 3 times, they said free.

Awesome. Can you explain that in detail? Like its flat out free to rent the movie?(no paying at all, even for netflix?)and do you have a link to the video?

Not to be a party pooper but YOU ARE ALL WRONG about the Netflix. You HAVE to have a current Netflix subscription and Xbox Live Gold Membership to stream the movies. AND your friends MUST also have Netflix subscriptions to watch the movies. Sorry to rain on your parade. But you really didnt think MS would give you something for free did you?:P I came across an article explaining this ill see if i can find the link.

I kinda like the idea of this. I always welcome innovation even though it may not be great. I'm defidently excited to see how well it will work out. Anyone here know when around that update is gonna be ?
There are a few catches, though. Microsoft touted the streaming service as free, but that's not exactly true. First, you'll need to be a Gold-level member of Xbox Live, which costs $50 a year. And you'll need to be a Netflix member, obviously. Even then, only membership above the base Netflix plan of $4.99 will get you access to the streaming service.
What's more, you won't get a crack at every piece of entertainment in Netflix's 100,000-piece library. Subscribers to this streaming/Xbox Live service may only choose from a smaller subset of 10,000 movies and TV shows."

There you go hopefully this clears some of the confusion.

"Netflix helps Xbox because there are 8 million of Netflix subscribers, and three-quarters of them are the right age demographic to buy a console," says Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan. "This gives them one more reason."If thats $5 a year for Netflex, I would get that. (If I got unlimited rentals for a year.)There are a few catches, though. That says memberships ABOVE the $4.99 plan, which means you won't get the streaming for $5 a month.

Actually you do get the streaming but its limited to 2 hours. for $8.99 you get unlimited, so regardless the first deal is pretty worthless.

Yeah, 2 hours a month is kinda pointless... that's one movie (and in some rare occasions less than that).
Personally, I am extremely excited about the Netflix thing. I have Netflix (by the way, even without the streaming I highly recommend it... I've watched a lot of movies I might not have check out otherwise, and they offer TV season DVDs, documentaries, and if you have kids tons of cartoons), and I have hardly streamed any movies to my comp because I just don't enjoy sitting in front of the computer watching movies. Actually, I didn't even know they had upgraded the streaming to unlimited (when I joined it was like 12 hours a month) until just now.
There's often nights when I don't have a DVD, don't feel like going out to Hollywood Video and spending money for something I'll be getting the next day in the mail, I'm not in the mood to play a game, and just want to watch something. Lately I've been downloading things on XBL on these occasions (documentaries on Dark Matter and stuff), but obviously you need to buy points to do that and you can't just buy 130 points for a 40 minute TV show. Now I'll be able to log into my Netflix account and stream a movie or show instead. Sure, it'll most likely be lower quality, but I can deal with that.
As far as Mii's... not really too excited about it, but I guess it's cool. I might be a bit peeved if I had bought gamerpics, but I thought they were a waste of money to begin with. I do like the idea of making my profile more personal, and in the way Xbox Live actually HAS profiles, they're beating Nintendo at their own game.
Finally, I was a late adopter of the 360, so the current dash is the only one I've known.... I think the change looks good and overall I'm excited about it.

netflix is not free, you still need a subscription to the service, theres just no aditional charge to bring it from your PC to your xbox.
Avatars are dumb i love my subway monkey pic
and i wanna see more infor on this "party" deal.....can you watch movies together without having to purchase or own the movie yourself.
and will these primetime gameshows cost money? i can forsee those 1.50 per play type deals like those cell phone comercials
[QUOTE="hrah"]the new feature I liked more was the Play from hard drive option, very nice Nick-42
Yeah I thought that was a very nice addition, but I do have the 20 GB so I might have to upgrade to 120GB. Anyone have any idea how much a game might take up?
I think it's gonna eat the 20 HDD alive if the games take like 4 or 5 gb,Im glad I got the elite now
Mearik said ( avatars are dumb i love my subway monkey pic ) lol.
Ever sense Halo 3 was released my views on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live have changed. Sense then Xbox Live has been garbage (this coming form a vetern who has had Live sense release) and there direction is becoming lame. Microsoft like Nintendo are pushing more towards casual gamers then ever before and it's just not for me. I am a multiconsole gamer and own everything this generation and I now seeing this new dashboard am seeing the Playstation 3 more and more like the hardcore gaming platform and I like it.
So in short I hate the new dashboard.

For Netflix Streams all party members have to be Netflix Subscribers. im not sure about the others but i can guarntee you that each person has to buy/rent the movie/tv show. Because Microsfot will try to make as much money as possible with this.
I for one am ridiculously angry over the avatar system
I want menus that I can actually read,
ones that tell me everything I need to know about my friends at the moment,
whether they're playing a game or watching a movie or offline
I don't want to have a screen cluttered with these stupid looking fake people who I have to select in order to see anything about that friend
Normal people like me,
who CHOSE the straight up interface of the 360 over the Wii because I prefer funcionality over aestetic,
should have the option of keeping the old dashboard we know and love
(I am excited about the more-than-two way chat though.
At least they did ONE thing I wanted)
this netflix deal is seriously one of the coolest things ever. ive never wanted to watch movies streamed to my computer moniter but now that i can watch them on my real tv i cant imagine anything cooler. this sounds eerily similar to the whol hoopla about PS home movie streaming thing we heard about last year.

So what about Aegis Wing, Caracassone, and the other 3 (or whatever number it is) games that were free on xbox live? Microsoft come up with the prices along with the developers so they have actually given us free stuff and actually quite a bit.
My opinion, I guess microsoft's new philosophy on improving their product entails slapping a new GUI on whatever they're selling and calling it better. The netflix thing is interesting but does nothing for the console as a gaming platform. Neither does the avatar system. IMO, the avatar system and new dashboard are a slap in the face to anyone who's actually paid money for themes and gamerpics. I know they'll probably still be functional but why would anyone use them?. Xbox Live has other problems that could've been remedied with this update but they chose to go the "fresh coat of paint" route instead. Hey Xbox team. How bout some some better gaming related features like a feedback system that actually means something or better anti-cheat software. This is a gaming service, isnt it?...
I actually kinda like the avatars but i don't like the look of the new dashboard,i gess its more erm interactive than the old one but it's not particularly interesting or colourful as the old one,i sure hope you can change that Grey background at least...blacktornyeah u can change it all and use all ur old pics and themes still. they not takin away just adding to it
daft to say its going to brick loads of consoles when u have no basis to say that, ur just guessing just coz they change the dash dont mean everyones going to break they console.dapmediainc
