The only thing i've heard regarding it's release date is that microsoft says it's coming in 2008... no word from capcom on a definitive release date though.
They probably aren't even ready to give a relative release date because they are still in the middle of development. If they give you an estimate too early and then have to push it back because of development issues, you get pissed off even more.
Official answer: There is no news regarding the release date of Resident Evil 5. In fact, there is no news at all in regards to anything Resident Evil 5 yet.
Non-official answer: I highly doubt that you'll see it this year. In fact, you can almost bet on that. Besides, why would you want to see it released early? Released later = more time to work on it = better game. Pray for a later release than an early one.

In that case Duke Nukem Forever should be the best game ever seeing how long that was in development. I wouldn't expect it this year as it seems they are still early in development.

The difference is RE5 is not stuck in development hell like Duke nukem, we've seen gameplay footage of RE5, anytime spent on thegame now is just going to make it better. You could spend the next ten years on Duke Nukem and it could still be crap as the engine thy're using might get outdated and costs may rise to high. It's basically a **** up.
