I have been saving up for a 360 the past few months now by putting aside money from each of my paychecks. I need only one or two more paychecks and I am there. My question is should I get the Elite or Pro 360. Only reason for an Elite is the bigger HD but I will only use it for game saves, demo's, add-ons (if they are saved here), and theme's if they are worth getting. I do not plan on downloading games because I have a Wii for its VC and most of the games on the Marketplace I can get on the Wii or are PSP remakes/ports. As for music I shall just run it from my iPod. TIA for the responses.

I am asking because I want the most worth out of money. My sub-question is do I really need a 120GB HDD for what I shall do with a 360.

To tell you like I just told the other person... I will put it like this then..... Do you need the bigger harddrive? If you don't get the Pro. If so get the E or you can buy the core then the big HDD which will still come out the same. Or if you dont want a HDD get the core and a memory card To add to that think of what you can do with the 120gb HDD. You can add your music I have 4gb of music I am going to add to my Elite when I get it. You can add pics and a whole bunch of other stuff to. If you don't want all that then go for the PRO.

Get the Elite the extra space will be worth it in the future. Plus if if you buy the Premium and decide to upgrade HDD then its going to cost $180 for the 120 GB HDD. So yeah buy the Elite dude. I know I will this Friday.

Being that you are going to be a new 360 owner, the only difference with the Elite package besides the hard drive is the hdmi port (doesn't make that much of a difference in picture quality), and of course the black case + black accessories that come with it. Personally I think the Elite package is really for the die-hard Xbox players. If you really just want to have game saves and demos like you were saying, the premium will be fine. I have had the 360 premium since launch, I own 9 games for it, I have a few Xbox Live arcade games on it along with some trailers, plus a few demos, and I still have a good amount of space left on it.

There's more and more HD movies (Blood Diamond in HD, and the 2 for 1 horror movies in HD from "8 Films to Die For"coming out of the Marketplace that I would like to download all at once, but my 20GIG HD can't fit all movies plus the current content already loaded.  With the 120GB HD, I don't really have to worry about any space issues.  Also, I don't have a 1080p TV yet (only 720p/1080i), but having that HDMI onboard is nice to have when I do make the jump to getting a new HDTV.  All this stuff and all the cables (component and HDMI) already in the box you need to hook it up for an extra $80 from the Premium.

for what you want to do the premium is fine. however, i know in the future you will want to download xbox arcade games because they include original titles unlike the Wii downloads...so far. the elite is also more quite and cooling system is better so they say. the E is only $80 more so i dont see why you wouldnt pay a little extra and be totaly satisfied wthout second thoughts.

If you want to pay a lot of money for something that doesn't even use the highest standards for HDMI and has no visually greater enhancements than the Pro than get the Elite.  If your buying the 360 Elite  then you better be planning on using it for T.V. recording because if your just using it for games you don't need 120gb.  Go with the Pro or wait till they release a Elite with a smaller HD and lower price(like Microsoft would do that!).

It makes more sense to get the elite because of the 120 gig hardrive and hdmi cables.

It makes much more sense to get the elite. $80 bucks more and you get 100GB more HD space, + HDMI. Despite what was said above me a few, it does make a huge difference for games that can run at 1080p. Believe me it is noticeable. The only way to get 1080p in the past was to use the VGA cable. Unfortunately a lot of the TVs these days, do not have a VGA port and only have component or DVI.

So by getting the elite you are also somewhat future proofing your console. And the final reason: You get the latest revision of the 360 hardware, always a good thing.

I don't have nor can afford a tv to get the best picture so no biggy for me. I want an Elite but don't because I do not want to spend the money then realize I could have spent less by buying a premium or core and getting the neccessary accessories from EB games with a discount, thanks to my brother working there.

okay now your getting annoying. sounds like you can answer your own question. you get a core with the accesseries and the price is still not that drastic of a diffference from the elite price.

If this is going to be your first 360, why wouldn't you spend the extra $80 for the elite?  It only makes sense.  You're getting a future proof console.

sorry to have angered some people here as it seems I have but just wanted current 360 owners opinions because I am unsure of the size demo's take up and if a 20GB HD is sufficient enough just for gaming, downloading demo's, add-on's, and occasional themes. Also, sales tax where I live is very high so things can get very expensive, our sales tax is 9.025%.

Based on the response so far I will wait a little longer and save up for an Elite with warranty and my first game is going to be Gears (already decided my first game long ago.)

Continue to respond please. I like to see why and why not too since I will have ample time to pick one. Thanks for the helpful, informative responses that some of the user's have posted so far.

I don't see why anyone would get a Pro now. For 80 bucks, you get HDMI and 120GB.

However, the Pro version is certainly a great machine. The 120GB is really just a convenience and HDMI is only important for large HDTVs.

While the Pro is a great machine, 120GB is not a convenience if you plan on having a lot of Demos installed and content. My original 360 had next to no space left after installing several demos, arcade games, movies etc. So in this case an extra 100GB is awesome. As for HDMI only being important with large HDTVs, how do you figure that? HDMI is on everything these days from the smaller LCD's up. My 32' has several HDMI ports. And like I said before, if you are going the 1080p route, you want that HDMI port...

The space is good for downloading videos from Marketplace.  Chances are you'll end up renting some movies or something from there sooner or later so you may want the space.  You could always upgrade later, though.

Ugh. If you don't have a 360 buy the elite. If you decide to buy the Premium and upgrade the HD later, you are in for sticker shock as the HD upgrade for current 360 owners is $179, which is a total rip off. I can buy a 120GB external 2.5" USB drive for under $100. I only wish MS would open up downloads to external drives. Then none of this hoopla would matter.

I'd have to agree with an earlier post. If you're buying one for the first time, get the elite. Between games, future expansions, and videos the extra HD space will come in handy. Did anyone current 360 owners take advantage of the game stop trade in?

You're wrong about 1080p only through VGA and HDMI.  You can get 1080p through component too.  I should know, I'm running 1080p through component.

yeah i think williamweaver is right...u can play 1080p games on a 1080p display w/ component cables.  the only thing is that component cables won't upscale dvds to 1080p but vga cables will.  I'm not 100% sure but i read around on a lot of forums and that's what i got out of it.

Personally, I haven't even put a dent into the HDD on the Pro. I have alot of gamings thinking it would start to go down but not alot. I guess if you download marketplace items you might fill it up pretty quick but spend your money as you like.

I would recommend the Premium version with the 20GB HDD.  Not only are you saving $80, you can save alot more buying used or ebay.  Money seems to be the issue with you, so dont buy Elite.  Its the same things for more than you will use.  120 GB is good if you are going use your xbox as a media center but doesnt seem you are.  20GB is fine for all your demos, themes, and music.

The Elite still suffers from alot of issues and xbox 360 will get updated again.  Wait till then really upgrade.  The inside needs to be changed.  I bet by end of 2007, they will have better 360s.  Run quieter and cooler.  Elite is not future proof.  There will be more enhancements, I gurantee it.  Elite is nice if you have the money spend but it doesnt seem like you do, I assure you that the Premium is just fine.

Update: I have decided that a pro is the better choice. I do realize the 20GB HDD is only 13 after MS's formatting but still that should be more than enough. I won't keep demo's because once I buy the game of a demo won't need it. Add-on's cant be too big nor can patches, i believe -- correct me if I am wrong. I am pretty sure gamesaves are minor in size so 13GB should last me. And for my music that is what my iPod is for. So yea thanks again for the responses.

Also in response to arcade games none on there intrest me that I cannot get on the Wii or PSP. Castlevania will be coming to the psp this fall and that Turtles arcade is coming to the Wii and Lumines is on the PSP so no need for those. So nothing that interests me. Thanks for those that were helpful.

My bad. I have never used the component cable and bought the VGA cable because the MS rep I was dealing with told me only 1080i was possible with the component output. Guess he needs to go back to school... ;-)

Im curious to know why you would not consider ever downloading original xbox arcade games . also do you realize a lot of developers going the route of extra downloadable content such as additional maps. i know for sure by end of the year you will want a bigger hardrive.

As I stated there is nothing out now I want nor anything planned I want. Also, I figured you could have figured it out by now because of my sig for my PSP. I am on custom firmware...that is all I can say here without getting into trouble. Well if that time I want a bigger HD then I shall get one but as it stands I don't need it. I do not justify the extra spending on an accessory that I do not need nor believe I will need. Also, I do trade games in at EB so no biggie for me.
