In games that give you a choice, which difficulty setting do you use the first time you play a new game? 'Easy' just to get through it fast, see what the game is like & then go back later on a harder diffculty? Or a harder setting right away to get the tough experience first?

I usually start with a normal setting, then do the easy and harder difficulties.

I'll play it through on the "normal" difficulty setting. Later on, I'll be up for the challenge of the harder ones.

Hardest available, unless it is really crushing (DOOM on nightmare anyone) that way the game lasts me a couple weeks at least.....R6V on realistic is taking forever

Always the hardest first. Cause when i Finally say “Screw it this is to hard!” I feel am im better prepared for the lower difficult lvl.

I usually start with easy, and if it's just too simple I keep bumping it up until there's a challenge. :P

I always start with the default (normal) setting and then I make adjustments if need be later on..........

Usually normal... But if the game is part of a franchise.... Resident Evil, i usually start on hard as i know the games controls ect just not the story line. Same with MGS.

Normal. I used to always play on easy, but then I would burn through games when I did easy.

I usually start on the normal dificulty, except for sequels of games that I've played, then I usually bump it up a notch, and after i beat a game on normal I almost always go back and play through it on hard, like gears, I'm going back through now and playing on insane, it get's pretty... insane :P

start at easy and work my way up...that way, i play through the game 3 times and i feel like it was worth the money

I usually start on easy and move up unless you have to start a new game to change difficulty, in which case I start at normal.

depends on how many difficulty levels there are, but usually the second hardest one, unless its a sequel. then i tend to try the hardest difficulty.

easy, then work my way up. Easy get u to the hang of things then normal means your experienced and hard should mean your great at the game.

I prefer the hardest mode since it gives the game a longer life than if I breeze through the entire game in 5 hours.

If I've purchased the game, I start on the hardest difficulty available.  If it's to overwhelming then I'll knock it down a notch and go back to hard later on.  If I've rented the game I usually play it through on easy or normal just to beat it (I don't subscribe to any of the rental services so I usually only have the game for a week or so).

If I own the game I start at default usually and adjust from there or a second time through,  but rentals I tend to be in a rush to finish so I put it on easy

I start on normal so that if I like the game I've got insentive to play through again on hard and if the game kind of sucks I can still roll through it fairly easily and quickly on normal...

and its worked for 3 years now.

I'll usually try a nomral difficulty. If it is too easy, I'll go back and start the harder one. That's what I did with GRAW 2. I beat Act I at normal and thought it was way too easy. Started over at the most difficult setting and beat it on that.

i used to start on the easiest setting, but then i decided that that was no fun so now i start on either normal or hard(then ill usually play it on the next difficulty once i beat it)
