I have decided to get a hdtv this christmas but I am not really sure which to decide on. I only need it to be like 19-24" considering I only sit like 2-4 feet away from it. Should I get a 1080 720p? What are some nice HD tvs I should know about?

Stay away from polaroid, they have huge problems. I had one and it is a piece of crap. Now, since the 360 can play on 1080, for the best picture, it is wise to get a 1080 resolution tv. Make sure it has composite inputs as well as hdmi if you want the absolute best picture. Don't worry about the built in sound too much because usually they have an audio out to go thru external speakers. Top manufacturers that I have noticed are: LG, Samsung, and Sony. 1080 is a bit pricier but if that is not in your budget, 720 works just fine. I have a 37" LG 720p, and it still looks amazing. Also, you can review some on circuitcity.com, or bestbuy.com to see what other people have said about them. good luck

if you're only getting up to 24" don't even bother looking at 1080p, I mean I don't know if they even make 1080p for screens that size. I assume you're getting an LCD screen and as far as what brand you should look at here's a rough generalization.

Sony, Samsung> LG, Toshiba, Sharp, Panasonic, JVC > Vizio, Westinghouse, Olevia

If you have the money I would try and avoid the bottom end (although I have heard good things about Vizio). I have a Toshiba Regza 32", got it in November 2007 and it's been awesome.

heres a useful chart

a few other things to note: 720p is the native resolution of the Xbox 360, there is a difference between "interlace" (i) and progressive (p). Progressive scan is especially better than interlaced when dealing with fast moving images like video games which makes 720p better than 1080i when playing games.

Samsung is the best, Sony trails behind but not much (though their R&D is getting worse as of late)

Everything else is aclass lower then it comes to LCD technology

I ended up getting a Full 1080P Samsung LCD after all the praise I'd read for them in regards to gaming. I got a 40" LA40A650, newest model at the time (a few months back), and one of the forerunners for the best LCD available. Over a HDMI cable - Games look incredible, Blu-ray (Samsung BDP-1500) and upscaled DVDs look better than I could have imagined, and FTA HDTV (via internal tuner) kicked regular digital TV to the curb. I definitely recommend them. They are surprisingly affordable too. Look into them, the cover every base.

nothing wrong with olevia's. i have a 47" 1080p and it works wonders. they're actually LG parts, just put together by a different company. but yeah, if you're only getting up to 24, i wouldnt bother with 1080, you more than likely wouldnt notice the difference. not to mention i got it this past february for only 1200 plus tax and a 3 year warranty which was only 80 bucks or something.

I got a 40" 1080p Samsung LCD HDTV and that thing is great!

I would suggest getting anything that's 32 inches and higher even if you have wait a bit. The 1080p on anything that's less than 40 inches isn't worth it since you can't see the detail in the picture. The brand is really up to you since they can determine how much you spend on the TV. Also if you go to Best Buy or anything you don't need to pick up the extended warranty, mainly because I've seen them online to be purchased later if you just want the TV without spending another $300 and all that is commission anyway. Just make sure you pick up some HDMI cables with it since it is an uncompressed digital picture to make it look as good as possible.

Hey bro I highly suggest you get a Samsung 32" LCD HDTV 1080p. I mean it's beautiful man ! I enjoy gaming SO much more on it now. I'm pretty sure you've heard of Braid the famous xbla game, this game looks freakin' beautiful man, lol. Of coarse games such as COD and good RPGs like Eternal Sonata have very stunning visuals also.

As said before, I highly suggest you get yourself a 32" Samsung, not to big, not to small, just perfect ;)

edit- Just thought i'd throw in the price for ya. The 32" samsung cost me roughly $750. There was a Insigmia (spell check?) for the same price that was a 50" right by the 32" samsung and the visuals on the samsung just blew the Insigmia out the frame!

Whatever you do, do not buy a Polaroid? had one and had to return it in less than a month. I have a 26" vizio 720p right now has great sound and you can git one now for only $430.

Actually, Samsung does. Samsung T240HD LCD HDTV Monitor, full 1080p HD. :)
