ive got a core xbox from well back in the day before they even had hdmi ports

its never had a red ring but then again ive hardly ever played it....

im thinking of getting a new one specifically an elite but a friend said that they get the ring of death more often

so which model of this console is most reliable, cause all i hear is "im on my fourth 360 in 4 months" do they all just suck or what

Please use the stickied RROD thread for all RROD discussion thanks - Moderator.

Internally all new 360s are the same, so there is no difference in the risk of getting RROD with an Elite or an Arcade model. There have been a series of improvements made since launch to greatly reduce the likelihood of RROD, so new units are less likely to suffer from it than your original Core unit

Xenon is the "worst"; it's the first chipset to be installed with the 360. You probably won't find any of those in stores, so you've got nothing to worry about. The most recent model of 360s are called "Jaspers", but those haven't really gone into full swing yet, so you'll likely end up running into a "Falcon" 360, which are "second-generation" Xbox 360s. Both the Jasper and Falcon chipsets are very reliable.

What model an xbox is in unimportant. When was the system manufactured and what components it uses, determines its reliability. Newer systems have been engineered to use less electricity, therefore producing less heat, making the possibility of RROD failure less likely.

If you hardly play the xbox why get a new one?

none, they both have the same models. buy one new because a new manufacture like made in 08 is great.

arcade units use jaspers, and they are the most reliable, falcons still get rrod, or other problems,

reading disc is one of the main problems i had with a xenon unit and rrod came afterwards so avoid launch-2006 units, 08 and 09 units are better

I've had a core system since near launch. It was running fine.

I put in a new hard-drive around 3-4 months ago and it still is good,no problems with it at all ever since I got it.
