I don't think English speaking aliens and giant, galaxy destroy rings exist either.

Maybe in a few hundred years. :P

[QUOTE="Phoenix534"]

[QUOTE="UT_Wrestler"] Yeah those are definitely a little more realistic, but they're all still along the same lines of being more realistic than Halo or Gears of War.UT_Wrestler

Definetly. But, if anyone here has played the original Rainbow Sixes and the Vegas games, you should know what I'm talking about when I said what I said. Also, I can't think of a single game less realistic than Halo.

In fairness, most of the older FPS games are just as far-fetched as Halo

Yeah, but the Tom Clancy series used to have a lot more realism than the New Tom Clancy series.

I like all styles a whole lot but i think I'd prefer Semi-Tactical for Gears alone.

I'd have to say tactical and semi-tactical. I'm really big on serious team games. When I'm alone, I do Hybrid, but I rarely am. With tactical and semi-tactical games, you have to constantly communicate with your team. Who's where? What's there? Who has what weapon with how many bullets here? It requires planning out not only your movements, but your entire teams, and the other ones, for the entire match, right at the start. It keeps me engaged. When I'm alone though, the variety of hybrid games keep me entertained. -Ari-freakin-el

[QUOTE="atm0073"]Lol @ you categorizing Call of Duty as semi-tactical and Halo 3 as "run-and-gun". It's the other way around IMO. Anyway, I usually prefer semi-tactical games and "run-and-gun" games, but I generally like all kinds of FPSs, as long as the game is good. I do enjoy "hybrid" games, such as BioShock, but I don't really think of them as FPSs in my mind.

How could it be the other way around? Elaborate? It takes far more hits to kill in Halo, and you rarely need to take cover. His definition of run-n-gun included circle-strafing and jumping. I think Halo fits in there perfectly.

[QUOTE="Innocentguy757"]Halo is not run and gun unless you're a noob. Then every game is run and gun.UT_Wrestler
Actually yes it is. Unless you're telling me that you spend the entire game going from one cover spot to the next.

Wrong, have you ever watched an MLG match. Watch one, and you'll realize that when played against another good team, if you run and gun you will get demolished.

Run and Gun is ruining the FPS genre. Developers can cheap out and replace weapon authenticity with there own sort of weaponary balance.

i.e. Most of you should be familiar with Call of Duty World at War.

Many players will opt for a weapon such as a German MP 40 for its high rate of fire. This weapon has an effective range of roughly 100 M.

However, you will notice some players will use the weapon to fire down longer ranges to great avail.

I have no problem with this at all, but as far as historical accuracy goes, Treyarch really drops the ball.

We need games that minimize weapon spamming and play more into tactical weapon usage. (If you know PC game titles check out Call of Duty United Offensive)

Pulling the trigger shouldnt be the auto win. Knowing how far your target is and if you can kill him or not needs to happen a bit more.

Sem-Tactical. It's what I think when I think of a FPS.

Call of Duty 2 is probably my favorite FPS ever.

[QUOTE="xxDEUCExx"][QUOTE="x_buckets_x"]gta anyone?Phoenix534

GTA = Not a FPS. Can't stand that game anyways. Just irritates the hell out of me.

Big problem right there. FPSs aren't the only shooters out there.

Yeah, ever heard of Gears, Ghost Recon, etc!

My favorite are the shooters your labelled tactical simulations. Started with the first Rainbow Six on PC, really got into it with SWAT3 and Rogue Spear and have loved this subgenre above all other types of shooters.

Semi-Tactical I like them cause of the cover system, running out and gunning everyone down isn't to fun. I like (some-what) planning, camping and letting them come to me, so I can take them out, Like in Gears.
