you could see 30 blurays for the price of owning less than 3 hd-dvdscokessweet7777

I just joined netflix $16 a month unlimited rentals. I can see 30 HD DVDs for the same price you pay to rent 5 bluray @ blockbuster. see I'm not as dumb as I sound > but right know i sound like you. I also know what your thinking.... because I have HD ESPN too.

**SIGH** I give up against the Sony hype machine. People read stupid articles and just take them as fact. Go look into it some more and you'll see all the problems with this.

Take for instance the fact that 1.4/1.5million BluRay players out there are PS3s.... pretty poor adoption rate for the standard alone huh? How about the fact that BluRay has a 5:1 player advantage, but only a 2:1 software advantage? Trust me, studios have taken serious notice of this poor adoption rate and are terrified of the day that the PS3 actually has games for these people to use their PS3s for. How about the fact that HD-DVD is now regaining market share? Or the fact that it leads almost everywhere else in the world by a far margin? Or that you can get most BluRay "exclusives" on HD-DVD by importing them from Europe since HD-DVD has no region coding?

If you take everything Sony dishes out (the Target thing turned out to be total BS) then I pity you. This BluRay stuff is no different than the "PS2 will have Toy Story-like graphics" kinda stuff they spew. But hey, I have a bridge in New York to sell you for pretty cheap if you're interested.....

stevoluvmunch

you sir have just given me an increase of faith in the intelligence of people. Good to know there is at least one other intelligent human being among me. sadly so far its just me and you

yes true but intelligence can come and go at times. and this is a perfect ex. you where doing really good until wishful thinking spit out "How about the fact that HD-DVD is regaining market share" I wish this was true but I feel compeled to correct you. the fact is,HD-DVD has been ever so slowly sliping almost every week this summer with a few exceptions which helped balance it out. but after this week sale numbers came out they sliped 1 point.TheSI for both has been at 60/40 sence somewhere around fathersday now its 61/39 BR/HD. now thats cleared up onto the next.

This is more of Confirmation to help me understand what your saying. Did you say that Most blu-ray exclusives will be on HD-DVD in europe? and we can import them and play them on our hd dvd players here? is this what your saying?

[QUOTE="lurid_twilight"]I'm waiting until they ever "officially" establish a winner. That may be awhile.tkemory

I doubt there will be a winner, look at the last few format wars. DVD and CD for example what happened? The players burners support both formats, that is what will happen here. They have even developed media that can do both HD-DVD and BetaRay. So people that think Bluray will "win" are just blowing smoke, it has plenty of deficiancies that will in the long run make publishers want the best from both worlds.

Early adoption numbers are worthless considering the very small percentage of the market HD movies in both formats hold. Once they start eating into the General Public, not the 1% that money doesnt matter, price point will probably establish the clear winner.

Try explaining to the normal consumer, well this player is 200$ less and gives you the exact same experience as the one for $500. But with the $500 player you get a media format that will allow you to have 30gigs of free space you can't do anything with, so its worth it!

Also for the uninformed HD-DVD already has produced dual-layered disc which will hold 40gig, the space issue is just a moot point right now, it will come down to movie studio support and consumer acceptance. And if the general public (the other 99%)wants HD-DVD the movie studios will be tripping over themseleves to support it.

Well said. 1 % of the market does not declare a winner.

im definetly happy about transformers

did you see fox and sonys response to paramounts announcement?

fox put out a list of upcoming movies like 20 of them even though so far they havent put out like any movies in 5 months and they keep pushing everything back. theyre scrambling thats it

only thing that sucks is that live free or die hard is blu ray exclusive that movie was bad ass

Many of them yes, particularly many of the more interesting/biggest blockbusterones (with the exception of Sony movies of course). This is because international publishing/distribution rights are not always in accordance with the same companies. I can give you a website that does imports and has a list(for instance Bridge to Terabithia came out not too long ago on HD-DVD in Europe despite it being a Buena Vista/Disney movie). This site is readily available at the AVSforums though.

It will make absolutely no difference on a standard TV, so don't waste your money. Your TV is incapable of displaying the higher resolution and therefore it won't, plain and simple. If you ever do get an HDTV though, knock yourself out by getting a player and a Netflix subscription. Fantastic combo.

This "format war" is far from over. The consumer has not chosen either of them. It is still very early. I bought HD-DVD recently since it was on sale and had 6 free movies.

I love the fact that you've been able topick up Mr. and Mrs. Smith on HD-DVD for quite a while, but Fox just announced it as a BluRay exclusive in the US in Oct as a retort to the Paramount decision! :)

No problem, I'm more than happy to help. I tend to spend a lot of time and words correcting the ignorant Blu comments made on these forums because people only know how to regurgitate single sourced headlines.

And yes you did. If you ever need confirmation of that, head over to the AVSforums and just read some threads there. There are some very knowledgeable and level-headed "fanboys" there because they've done their research. The difference in attitude between the HD-DVD forums and the Blu forums is crazy. It's quite obvious that the Blu forums consist of its main source.... PS3 fanboys.

It's quite obvious that the Blu forums consist of its main source.... PS3 fanboys.
