[QUOTE="lurid_twilight"]I'm waiting until they ever "officially" establish a winner. That may be awhile.tkemory
I doubt there will be a winner, look at the last few format wars. DVD and CD for example what happened? The players burners support both formats, that is what will happen here. They have even developed media that can do both HD-DVD and BetaRay. So people that think Bluray will "win" are just blowing smoke, it has plenty of deficiancies that will in the long run make publishers want the best from both worlds.
Early adoption numbers are worthless considering the very small percentage of the market HD movies in both formats hold. Once they start eating into the General Public, not the 1% that money doesnt matter, price point will probably establish the clear winner.
Try explaining to the normal consumer, well this player is 200$ less and gives you the exact same experience as the one for $500. But with the $500 player you get a media format that will allow you to have 30gigs of free space you can't do anything with, so its worth it!
Also for the uninformed HD-DVD already has produced dual-layered disc which will hold 40gig, the space issue is just a moot point right now, it will come down to movie studio support and consumer acceptance. And if the general public (the other 99%)wants HD-DVD the movie studios will be tripping over themseleves to support it.
Well said. 1 % of the market does not declare a winner.
