1. Lower the difficulty

2. The more you play the more fun it gets (I had the exact same problem until 10 hours in)

3. If you don't pay attention to leveling it will happen faster.

I played on normal and I think after beating the complete main quest, and all but three of the sidequest I died maybe two or three times. How far are you in to the game? If you are just starting out try to avoid the Super Mutants as much as you can because they are terribly hard in the beginning, but later on are very easy even take 4-5 on at one time. I was not too in to the game at the beginning, but about a little less than halfway through I just got totally addicted to the game!

just be warned however, by lowering the difficulty you are going to level slower as you get less exp from killing everything and I believe the quests as well. Make sure that with most things in the wasteland (monsters) you back up trying to use VATS as much as you can and otherwise just shooting shots off while they can not attack you because you are backing up. Then with anything that is shooting you (like Super Mutants) try to take cover behind something letting VATS charge back up and use it ALWAYS trying to get some head shots if possible.

try to use vats as much as you can in the beginning, if you run out of ap try hiding behind walls while you let your ap regerate itself.
i died 3 times on very early game by those flamer raiders lol. it was frustrating but you'll get used to it and youll get better as you progress.

I sorta had to work to get into it. Killing at the beggining is hard. I just stayed close to megaton and consistantly clicked the VATS button to check for enemies. They can easily sneak up on you so keep turning the camara. If you can sneak up on them just consider them dead. And you dont need to keep buying ammo. Buy a gun and a lot of ammo for that gun. Just try and conserve ammo with headshots and such and when you kill someone take thier ammo. You wont run out. Try quests, they can help point you the right way. And dont stray to far from safety.

Wow, lucky you. The Deathclaws have killed me 4 times apiece in *that one town I won't name because I want them to surprise other players* I think the only appendage they didn't detach from my body was the one in my pants :P

EDIT: Oh and for the record, I've been into the game since I unwrapped the plastic wrap from the box! Over 37 hours clocked and I just finished Tranquility Lane.

A fan of Oblivion yet leveling is too slow in Fallout? How does that even make sense?

Hmmm... I can kind of relate with the thread starter. For one I think the game is amazing, not the best grphics when it comes to the npcs but the scenery as well as the gameplay and story are insane. The only problem I have is I just don't find myself have a lot of fun with the game, a part of me wants to trade it in for mirrors edge because I know I will enjoy it more.
