Imo they are two different types of shooters, in Battlefield its WAY more team based and takes cooperation with your team to win, also Battlefield is more vehicle based. In CoD its all run and gun and you don't really need teamwork. Now that is just my opinion but im not trolling and i have nothing against CoD or Battlefield I play them both daily.

They're both first-person shooters and they both take place in the same eras.

I agree.

But the reason why people compare them is : They're based in a "realistic" modern setting, a FPS, and are multiplayer focused.

The same reason my buddy in a two passenger Corvette always wants to compare it to my four passenger Mustang.

They are both FPS games, but battlefield has more realism than CoD.

i don't think people truly compare them. What they do is use them to compare them to other games that try to head that way because they are at the top of the chain.

I like the speed of cod but i like BF in general

I personally haven't played Battlefield enough to render good judgement about the game, but CoD can be team based if you really try. In Modern Warfare 2, I mostly played Hardcore Search and Destroy. It's the most fun game type to me because it's the most realistic; no respawns, no HUD, mostly one shot one kill, etc. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but I always tried cooperating with teammates in that gametype, because if you don't, you have a way better chance of losing.

Yeah, both are shooters and take place during the same time periods (both WWII and Modern). They are both, to an extent, more realistic than other popular shooters like Halo and Gears of War. But, I agree, Battlefield is much more team-based than CoD.

i dont know if you'd say "compare" but people use the 2 games to represent the BEST FPS games that take place in current day (MW and MW2 at least) and if you took a screen shot of both games, you'd see A LOT of similarities. but obvoiusly the games only LOOK similar but are actually totally different styles of FPS. I personally prefer the style of BFBC2, but havent played it much lately.

They are both mainstream shooters with massive amounts of players, why wouldnt you compare them? It's what most people are playing.

There's more reasons to compare them then not. As EVERYONE has already said, they are two of the largest FPS multiplayer mainsteam titles. And I would say that they are the largest franchises set in a "realistic" game world. Both games focus more on their multiplayer then they do on their campaigns. Both have been around for a very long time.

Are they different in their approach? Yes. Absolutely. But they fall in to exactly the same genre as one another. Hence why they are compared, AND no doubt should be compared, to one another.

The main difference between these two shooters is that Battlefield BC does'nt take itself too seriously, it has a sense of humour.

Your reasoning skills, or lack thereof is disconcerting at best. The topic isn't about your personal preference between the two games, the TC is asking why you believe the two titles are always compared with one another.

Topic: The simple fact of "why?" lies within the human psychy. We have a natural compulsion to compare and contrast things around us in order to gain a better understanding and perspective of that which we are comparing. It's only natural to compare similar objects with one another in an attempt to decifer which one is superior to the other. I could break this down much further, but for the sake of everyone's sanity I will stop here. :P

Well thats a question i ask myself as well. But the thing is they both have their Pros and Cons. Atm im really rooting for Call of Duty but it will probably change when Battlefield 3 comes out.

People compare them because, well that's just what people do. It probably starts by people who've invested a bunch of time in one game and don't want people to stop playing that game in favor of the new/other game. It's all nonsense, people have different criteria for liking/disliking. Some people can't afford to play games all day and they tend to be easier to please and way less critical about things. People who game all the time seem to have way stronger opinions. It's all about wanting to be the best, have the best, etc... I say try them and play what you like, who cares what everyone else tells you to like.

I ask myself this question a lot. Like most posts before, it's probably because they're both first person shooters in a more modern setting. Most people don't realize how different they really are, they just get caught up in the action

Because they are in the same genre and they are videogames. People compare GoW to CoD doesn't make sense but they do. They just want to start an arguement for their own amusement.
