I play them again for the achievements. Why would I do that when they have no practical use? Well, I love the introduction of achievements. Take the PS2, for example. No achievements. You're done with a game, and the only reason to ever put it in your console again is if you enjoyed it, and wants to play it again. Fair enough. But with achievements, there's more to accomplish. Some achievements require you to play through a game several times. Basically, they're there for the fun of it. Oh, and also to boost your e-peen.
i seriously don't understand this at all. doesnt it feel boring to play the same levels again after finishing it? ive seen ppl finishing mass effect 2 3 times (30 hour long campaign lol) and more and wanting to play even more!!! i finished mass effect 2 also and i must say that it is an AMAZING game that attacked my every feeling and emotion. it was toooooo fun. at the end i wanted to try out all the other classes. so i did new game plus and played vanguard cuz of the ownage charge move. but i just couldn't enjoy it even tho mass effect 2 was super fun. this applies to all games. i just cant enjoy it no matter how fun the game is.
You don't because your not used to playing great games. You didn't come from the era were a really bad game was "RARE". It's actually to your benefit to to play a game like Mass effect 2 again. why? because you have missed something that you didn't pick up on before. I mean are you not going to watch a movie you enjoyed before? Completely different experience. A game is like watching a movie in very very slow motion, frame by frame. You cannot not pick up on most things for god's sake unless you are doing it intentionally.Either the game is awesome, I want an achievement, multiple storylines, the sequel came out or I'm just in the mood.
I think the only games I can remember playing through more than once were Metal Gear Solid and Medal of Honor on the PS1.
For me it's more about lack of time these days to play games. I want to experience as many good games as I can in the little amount of time I have to play them.
idk it really just depends on the game some games give a unique and different experience on each playthrough while some are just so dam fun that you could through it 3 or 4 times before getting bored. Those are the best type of games though. ME for example can be played through at least 2 times(good and bad) to give you a different experience and you also get to mess around with different team mate combinations. Theres also different classes to use that play completely different from each other so you could easily playthrough ME 3 or 4 times.
Ditto.Either the game is awesome, I want an achievement, multiple storylines, the sequel came out or I'm just in the mood.

The first question is: How old are you?
I'm assuming not old enough to have played through the NES years where gaming was all about replaying the same levels over and over and over and over and over again, and game completion was based solely on skill and perseverence.
It boils down to how much I enjoyed the game and how much better I think I can get or my desire to see how good I am under difficult circumstances.
Action/Fighting games
I replay these when skill is involved with the combat and you probably won't have all of the combat mechanics mastered after beating it once. I'm an old school head so the thrill of getting a higher score is always there. My favorite modes to replay are ones where it is 100% action, like Mercenaries mode in RE5. There's is zero story, it's just jump in, run around and shoot stuff and you get graded based off of how well you did like chaining kills or beating everyone within a set time. I wish EVERY action game had a mode like this, or at least a level select screen so I can replay whatever stage I enjoyed as much as I want to.
RPGs
I only replay Bio-Ware games. I enjoy the stories so match that I want to make different choices and see what the outcome is. Their character classes are very different and have radically different abilities so I like to play through those using a totally different style than I used at first. Also, you can usually get to combat pretty quick with minimal exploration, which I find annoying on a second playthrough. Their dungeons, in general aren't too long for the most part which is important to me because, despite my enjoyment of the combat, I don't like being in the same arena for more than 30 minutes when it's I'm just replaying.
I'd love to replay JRPGs and use a totally different party and I usually enjoy the combat, but I HATE towns and exploring in general. So much of JRPGs is wandering around a town or castle that's a maze or going into some dungeon, that's also a maze, with trap doors and crap like that. I HATE mazes with a passion, especially when the only thing I want to do in a replay is so how much I've mastered the combat and fight the hardest enemies possible, not get lost. The only JRPG i've played after beating it is Pokemon, because the overwhelming bulk of the game is just running around fighting for treasure that gives you new party members (the pokemon themselves) and Golden Sun, which had a mode where you imported your character and fought endless waves of enemies until you died and you got a score at the end of it.
Every RPG should have an endless combat or survival mode imo.
Pretty much the same reason why i'll watch a good movie more than once. Although i'll usualy take a pretty long break before playing it again. I've never done 2 play throughs in a row on any game unless it has co-op.
Different story branches, new playable characters, different class choices, added content, different difficulty, nostolgia, achievements, etc...
Theres just so much content in games these days it's hard to experience it all in one play through, and most games add enough variety, per playthrough, to make them worth a double dip
