Hello!

Well, why do you? I have noticed that gaming is not just about having fun anymore, it seems some people don't even game because they enjoy it. It just seems that achievements are all that matter now a days. How do you feel about achievements? Do you play for the fun, or the achievements? To answer my own question I play more for the fun. The first time I play a game, it is defiantly just for my enjoyment, the second time around I will start to look at the achievements, although I never forget to have fun while doing it.

I realize this has probably been done before, but I did not see any current ones and I am curious how other gamers feel about this topic.

I play for both, but some games I play for achievements over fun. No matter what though I always try to get all the achievements even if it's not fun to get some.

Play for fun. Won't buy a game that's not multiplayer because I love playing with friends. I'll buy a single player game if it's an RPG game. Luckily, Fable has multiplayer.

Why do the two have to be mutually exclusive? People have fun with games in different ways. Some people enjoy playing games for the achievements. Just becausesome peoplefeel you can't have fun when playing a game for achievements doesn't mean that everyone feels that way.

What if earning achievements is fun? Who do you honestly think is going to say they play a game and don't think it's fun? The only time most people would ever go for achievements without the fun is for game where the achievements are easy, like avatar or free games like Aegis Wing and Dash of Destruction(although Aegis Wing was pretty fun).

I play for fun, primarily. I'll never buy a game just for the achievements if I think I wont enjoy it. That said, if a game is out on multiple platforms, I'll choose the 360 version so I can go for the achievements, because I know they'll give me extra playtime on the fun game without it getting boring through lack of stuff to do.

I play for the fun of it, if I get an achievement so be it. I don't like playing multiplayer games with people who want them though, it starts getting annoying after a while.

I think achievments are only okay after the first play through. Achievments have kind of ruined gaming for me because im always thinking I missed a skull or a flag around the last corner so I always back track the whole level to make sure I didnt miss it. This has taken away from the natural feeling of playing a game for fun for me.

I know people who do this actually, that was one of my reasons for starting this whole thing. I was wondering why some people do go out and buy games and play them when they are not doing it for fun, I know quite a few people who do this.

I play for fun. I have no interest in achievements at all. I'll play a game regardless of how easy/difficult the achievements are. I'll also stop playing a game when I feel like it. Achievements play no factor in my gaming style.

Depends if the game is good or not, If not then I play for achievements or until I start liking it, but If I find a game I really enjoy I'll keep coming back regardless of Achievements.

Why would I pay $65.54 for achievements? No, I don't play specifically for them, but I do LOVE getting them often. I just get sad when I get the majority of them. Makes me wish games had a higher starting amount of gamer score to get...

Couldn't careless about gamerscore, only achievements i liked getting was L4D they were more badges of honor than score. Still remember my "All 4 Dead" "Tank killer" fine moments in gaming when getting them legit.

I play purely for the fun. Don't care too much about the achievements but it's fun to see how much my gamerscore has increased after getting the achievement.

After owning all three systems and choosing the 360 as my main gaming device i would love to say it is just for the fun. However lately it has been for the achievements, not to say that i dont have fun getting them or while playing.

But lately i have been using my blockbuster game pass quite a bit to get games i dont want to buy and horde the achivement points.

Some of my rents on my list have actually turned into buys because of this however which i guess is a good thing and proves i was having some fun.

The thing in my sig is actually wrong i dont know why it says 34000 when i am almost at 37000 now the stupid thing wont update LOL

I play usually for both. Just playing and acting stupid/annoying on games like COD and Halo can be alot of fun at times, while achievements are there to add that little bit of spice and challenge to the game.

Winning something as a reward for winning something is fun for me. You know, like when you get a scholarship for getting an "A" in school, or a trophy for winning a tennis championship, kinda like that with games (beat the game, get an achievement).

So, for me, achievements and fun are synonymous.

Gosh, I feel so torn over this issue. Seriously, I look at achievements more often now, and it makes me angry because I want to enjoy the game, not just buy a game and play it for achievements. I don't know why I do this either. Some friends on XBL sort of mildly compete with me, so that may be part of it, but it makes me angry, because I wish I could just say, "wow, that game was amazing," rather than "Wow, I'm missing an achievement, I must get it!" or something like that. Honestly, I don't like the fact that I so often go for achievements rather than just playing the game for what it is - an escape from everyday life problems. Can anyone help me out?

This is not a problem. It is human nature. This is the fact why lawyers try to passionately win cases, by CEOs are so successful, why a janitor keeps his job for over 30 years. This is why I am a top student at UBC, on of the best Universities out there, especially for Law and Math, and Science.

I don't follow. Why is it human nature?

I think is bought. When you start playing a game, you want to enjoy the game, but at last you want to feel that you are the best in something. This is the reason cause all the games have achievements (wow, starcraft) and rankings, and thats the reason all games are multiplayer now. You have to fight with others to be the best :)

I play for achievements but if I don't enjoy the game then I won't force myself to continue playing. If that's the case then I'll honestly just put in a different game and try to get those achievements.

I play for fun and thats it. Honestly I only look at the achievements if it has an interesting name when I unlock it otherwise I just play and when I hear that sound, I simply glance at it and continue playing.

I play games for the fun and beat them and then I will go back and play for the achivements. Why would you buy a game just for achivements? Whats the point?
