MLB2K7 came out yesterday and no review. That was one of the games they are always talking about and having previews about but they can't even get a timely review up.  I recall they used to be so much better about reviewing games when they came out. I wonder how long we will have to wait for the god of war 2 review.

Well you gotta give them a while. Sports Aren't like Action games, theres so much dept in sports games they gotta take time to realize if anything has changed or if theres enough features to actually warrant the new entry.

Also, they have to test out the online component at length, which is time consuming. It's more important that they take a few days to do it right than to get a review out quickly. --Dave

I'd prefer that the reviewers actually take a bunch of time playing the game before they write a review.

Yeah, I think they are a little more thorough than some other sites. Especially with sports games, where you need to play a bunch of games to really get a good overall feel for the game.

You know in my day, there was only one place for reviews and were from a publication owned by the company that made your console, and it could take up to a month after a game came out to read it and sometimes they reviewed it without actually playing it.

You kids and your interwebs... so impatient.

So let me get this straight, you expect them to be able to play the entire game in full, then write a review about it in 1 day? How long does it take you to play games?

Personally, i have NEVER beaten a game, or played everything there is to do in a game in a single day (well, maybe a crappy nes game i have). But hey, if you buy your games, and beat them, and play every aspect of them always in a single day ... well ... you seriously need to get a life.

i was hoping for a mlb 2k7 review by now too, but i will probably just go out and get it.  It's getting pretty good reviews from various other sites.  check gamerankings.com.  I figure i don't really have any options with baseball games on the 360 anyways.

Almost all companies get advance copies of games.  I know other sites have had the game for at least a week.  Game Informer released their review score early last week.  I think a week or two of playing a game is plenty of time to get a good feel for the online and season/franchise modes.

I believe Gamespot makes their game reviewers beat a game before writing about it.

well you know that they get advanced copies of the games so they have been playing the game for a while already. secondly IGN has the review up already for all systems. they also have the GoW review up already too. IGN has pretty thorough reviews.

They always take long. It's the way they handle things, which is pretty dumb if you ask me. There suppossed to play the games a month before they come out, so that come release day theres a score for it.

No, I expect them to review the game days ahead of time, like they do with every other game, and then have a review written on or before the release date.  Most sites do this.  Most industries work this way.

OK, I hope this was written in jest, but please take a moment to reconsider your assumptions about what an entire company's policies are.  For example, saying "I believe Ford field-tests all their new car models for at least one million miles, including entering them in the Paris-Dakar rally" sounds nice, but is in fact total garabage.

Are you serious? I mean come on give these guys a break. They do not live at the office. I would not mind if it took them a week to put out good quality reviews.

I disagree with the posters here that say sports games have more depth and need to be played longer before being reviewed. As a matter of fact I'd say they need the least amount of time as you can almost tell what has changed from one year to the next just by looking at the back of the game case. Lets use NHL2k7 for example, the back of the case list all the new additions since 2k6. Yes you might have to play 5 to 10 games but after that you definately have played enough to get a feel for the changes and how they effect the game.

Other games (say games that take 10 to 20 hours to solve) actually need that full time to get everything out of the game and even then you might have skipped a lot of adventures or quest. Back to madden, you will have exactly the same experiance in the first game you play as you will in the last game you ever play. You don't have to worry about seeing new levels and new challenges because it's always just you on a flat piece of grass trying to stop 11 people from scoring.

It may sound like I dislike sports games, I don't at all and play them regularly. I just don't feel like they take more time to come to grips with and therefor review. Just my two cents.

Pretty sure the reason GS takes longer to review games is because they don't just fly through it and write some 2 cent review. They play games to death and give us plenty of information on them. Their reviews are very in depth and hit all the important high and low points, you can't do that in a day or two of playing. I trust GS above all others, I hope they keep doing what they are doing.

for the people saying that they hope they take extra time to review games. just go on metacritic and look at where gamespot stands in the reviews. they almost always have one of the lowest scores out of all the sites.
