I heard Dead Rising 2 was free for Gold members so I thought I'd go ahead and buy a Gold membership for 1 month. Then I realized that I had a 2-day Gold membership code in my Mass Effect 3 box. I entered that in and it worked; I'm a Gold member. Yet, Dead Rising 2 is showing up as $29.99. What is the problem here? Anyone know?

Did you really think you could put in a trial code and they'd give you a $30 game for free?

It comes up as "Free" with a small "1" next to it. Then says they '1' stands for with tax. So you still have to pay for the game. Either that or MS is just trying to force people to put their credit cards on the system.. which I won't do.

Just hit X to change payment options and it will go to free. If you have a CC on file it automatically defaults to that over points.

That's just a trial for a Gold membership; it is not recognized as an actual Gold account. You'll need to purchase a subscription to get the free games.

How strange it is! I always redeem a code for a month or more and I havent had any trouble downloading the free games. I would advice to apply for Microsoft support.
