Why doesnt Halo 3 have boss battles??

I thought boss batels were the weak points in both Halo2 Taturs and Halo 3 Guilty Spark. I cant remember any shooters with good boss fights. Some may say MP series but that's always more of an adventure platforming game.

Actually, I think boss battles would be awful. And in a sense it does, the giant scarab tank that you have to destroy, could be considered a boss.

i agree, seeing the bosses die in cinematics are much better than mashing them with the b button. OMG OMG OMG i just killed the epic prophet of truth with a plasma nade!!! ROXOR!!

To be honest halo 3 single player was quite disappointing to me... The best part was fighting those 2 huge spider robots. Felt like a boss fight to me.

Halo 1 and 2 both don't have "boss battles" for say, but what do you call fighting the scarabs in Halo 2 and Halo 3, blowing up the first Halo ring in Halo 1 and even the short battle with Guildy Spark in Halo 3?

Halo doesn't use boss battles like I imagine you want (coparable to Zelda boss battles or any other simillar game) because that is not the game style of a First Person Shooter or Halo for that matter.

As for boss battles making the game better, I don't think so especially with the Halo gameplay it would result in you just unloaded a bunch of rounds into a target and wouldn't make a more "enjoyable" experience per say.

fewer and fewer shooters have boss battles nowadays. they're considered unrealistic, a super powerful person/being/whatever. and for better or worse, modern shooters seem to aim for realism more often than not.

not quite what i was going for, but whatever.

i'm aware that halo isn't realistic, but it's still not the type of game where there is one giant monster at the end that after you kill it everything is safe. the enemies in halo are organized and tough, they themselves have classes and are put together in a very realistic way, even if they are aliens. there is no single thing to wipe out and fix everything.

that's what i meant.

oh rigght sorry for being a arrogant prick i just think that halo itself didnt need boss battles, its not as satisfying to kill a boss liek any other enemy rather then watch a cool scene. if they somehow implemented gameplay into a cinematic im all for it

I wouldnt go as far as that but... let's break down what usually makes a good boss battle.

Patterns. The boss needs a pattern of attack that you can dodge.

Dodgeing. Not a big strong point in FPS, most of the time it's taking cover.

Jumping. Every boss battel I have ever encountered involves a decent amount of jumping and.... jumping in the FPS view for the most part is not very intuative

These things tend not to go well in FPS's. Here's a good question to the rest of you folks. What do you think is needed to make a boss fight a good.... boss fight.

i think the most important thing is the feeling it gives off. it needs to feel important, it needs to be happening for a reason, and you need to feel the consequences afterwards. the last boss needs to feel epic and it needs to be hard. anytime i beat a final boss on the first try, the game loses points in my book.

the boss battles in halo 2 were the low points of the game... halo 1 didnt have boss battles, just times when enemies would swarm...which is what i'd prefer... it doesn't make much sense when there are characters who have 50x more health than they should. Boss battles like Tartarus or Regret weren't great. Large encounters with fire going off everywhere is awesome. Scarab battles are awesome. I didnt really like the Guilty spark either. It didn't make sense to me... I wish you could kill that little thing in the beginning, and it will be just harder to get around everywhere. lol

to make a good boss fight?... hmm....

I would say that I really don't like the fact that boss's usually have an enormous amount of health. I wan't a better reason for a Boss to be more important than everyone else other than more health. I want the boss to be much more intelligent, more skilled than their "henchmen" and should always have a weakness (which most boss's contain). Usually I like to fight boss's that look "cool" or like he's a bad@$$. Regret was not cool looking at all, and Tartarus doesn't look as menacing as the new chieftans.
