Simple really. It isnt convient. Sure, buying the product is, but it ends there. Its much easier to transport a game you have brought from a shop as it is on a disk, and if i decide i want to sell the game I can whereas if i bought from Games on Demand I wouldn't be able to. Also, I like to phsyically have my games, i like the cover and the safety in knowing it is my responsability with what happens with the game, i still have games in very good condition from the PS1 such as Resident Evil and Dino Crisis.

I prefer disks than Downloads

What are your thoughts on Games on Demand?

I would never buy a game that has a single player mode digitally. I like owning games, because then I can just go put it in whenever and play, whether it be 45 minutes from now or 20 years. Won't work like that through DD. Online games won't exist forever though, so bf1943 and stuff like that doesn't bother me so much.

It's simply an alternate way to purchase games, one that allows you to do it from the comfort of your home. For some people that justifies the high prices, for others it doesn't. PC games have been like this for a while now, so has music, and it's nice that you can do it on the 360 now. I myself don't really plan on using it much, because of the prices, but it's cool to have the option available and you never know how in the future, it might be useful. I can think of a number of scenarios...lets say you're busy with work or school and forget to pre-order a great game that just came out, you call up a few stores and notice they're sold out, well luckly you're able to download it by paying a bit more. You know, it's cool it's there now, I hope it develops more and includes more recent titles in the future. But to say "I'll never buy from On Demand", nah, who knows what the future holds, and I don't like the word "never".

My take on this: Totally useless, for me that is. I like to have my own games, take em to a friends house, etc. It may be useful for thoes who cant buy on shops(for some odd or not reason) and the prices are ridiculous! Mass Effect-30euros?! i bought it last year, brand new for 25, that was last year. Breakdown: Personally i dont care, but at the same time, for thoes who find it interesting, the better, microsoft sure puts some goodies on xbl(they better, we pay for it) even if theyre kinda expensive. So yeah thats it.

I'll never buy it because they cost twice as much as the in store disc. Call of Duty 2=30 dollars???? What the heck is that bull crap??? It's only 10 here at the store.

I trust discs for my data "games, photos, music, documents ect" over any hdd. Hdds tend to mess up more often and when they do...Most times its game over.

PLUS I will never..NEVER NEVER buy anything for my 360 that I have to download and pay for. WHY??...Cause their hardware absolutely suxxxx and I will not trust my money and time on this machine.

Will I in the future sometime? Sure, its going to be mandentory. BUT I hope by then "5-7 years" everything will be more reliable, and COST LESS..

A lot of peoples complaints about this service are pretty stupid really.

1. Of course the games are more expensive right now than they should be because in bussines it's much easier to lower prices than it is to raise them. Also they wouldnt of wanted to release a game on the first day that was a great deal and loads of people downloaded because they system is new and might not be able to deal with that kind of demand.

2. If you only want to own phsyical media then this service is obviously not for you but plenty of people do want a service like this as Steam has shown.

3. If your 360 breaks then you haven't lost the game as your purchase is stored on your Live account and you can redownload the game if you choose.

Obviously On demand is far from perfect as is but this is early days and this time next year it will be fleshed out a lot more with more variety in product and pricing.

Most people feel the same way you do, so don't expect many answers to be radically different from yours, TC. I don't support Games On Demand at all; apart from their superiority to physical copies of games, there are just too many outer factors that render them unable to make much of any appeal to most games, such as their price, their HDD space requirement, and their sole method of purchase (credit cards). I do, however, like the idea of Games On Demand. If most of the problems surrounding the initiated concept were to be fixed or reversed, then I might actually use and support it. But right now, it's flawed failure in my eyes.

You can actually use MS points to buy the games with which, at least in my country (Denmark), makes the games a lot cheaper for two reasons: MS Points can be purchased much cheaper as prepaid cards than through Live and the games are priced rediculously high here (DKR299 ~ $57).

Most of them are still more expensive than physical copies though, so I won't be using the service. I also like physical copies better.

I 100% completely agree. I like having something that is tangible. I like to sell something if I dont like it and if I want to let a friend borrow it, I can. Games on Demand is just not for me. I'm sure some people will really enjoy it, however, I wont.

With all this GoD talk it is starting to sound like the PSP bords discussing the PSP Go.

But I also think that the whole Digital Distribution thing is inconvienient yet inevitable. Because watch with in the next two game generations we will be completly digital download.

No joke, Oblivion is $40 on the marketplace but in any retail store you can purchase Oblivion: Game of The Year Edition that comes with both expansion packs for $30.

Which is interesting because then gamestop will have no reason to exist, because they don't carry anything for previous generations.

actually, no. if you wanna be technical, Games on Demand will guarantee the best condition of any game you will ever buy in your life. because if you have an actual copy, it can get scratches/damages. and GoD games will not. and you can still download it again for free if your HDD breaks.

Nope, not kidding, IGN even compared, the special edition of Battlefield BC costs the same as the vanilla version of the game on GOD (20$), Bioshock and Oblivion were both at 30$, yet you could get a bundle with both for 40$, COD2 could be gotten at gamestop for 13$, and even less if you visit some other stores. Besides that, a good part of the games (such as karaoke) require some bloody accessory, and that unfortuneatly can't be downloaded digitally, so technically you are buying something you can't play

If new games costed less than buying from a retail location I would be interested. But the prices are ridiculous considering your ownership of the game is so limited when bought on demand.

I was thinking of getting Mass Effect but then it was pointed out that it's not the platinum hits version and you have to buy the DLC separate. So I guess I'll be ordering this on Amazon.

Checking them at the store is fine and all, but Game discs wear and tear naturally. Discs just don't last forever. With GoD, you are paying to always have it in mint condition, just waiting for you. You are paying FOR the right to always have it waiting in mint condition.

Also, one of the features for it I remember hearing about is, you could always delete it when you need room and redownload later. So you can play something like Burnout Paradise when the mood strikes, then delete it from hard drive and months later, if the mood so strikes again, redownload. Now, your games library can be a little less limited. Your not going to trade in a game for another, then regret it after a wave of nostalgia makes you want to play the traded game again.

Hell, I know that at least once I myself have traded a game in, then regreted it enough that I rebought (Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion AND Halo 3). The games on demand can potentially remove my needing to spend an extra handfull of green when I want to play again.

I agree 75%. Here is what I think though.

Yes, most of those games are over priced, but the games that aren't (Oblivion, Bad Company, Mass Effect) for $20 is a pretty good deal. And yes, you can go to gamestop or amazon and get it a few bucks cheaper used. But think about think. What exactly is a used game? Buying off Games on Demand automatically guarantees 100% working order ALL TIME on that game. No freezing, no lagging, no framerate drops (less not exactly no lol). If you buy a game off of Amazon for a few bucks cheaper...You don't know how good it will work and what condition. You also have to PAY for SHIPPING. Say you go to Gamestop to buy one used. Again, its not NEW and will not work as good and could be in BAD condition. You also have to PAY for GAS. If you get GoD..

You get a brand new game (as well as manual..you can download the manual free of charge), no worry of breaking it, no worry of losing it, and no extra cost. TAX. So what if they might tax your credit card. That's a little less that $2 dollars for 8 percent. And that's a pretty good deal.

That is why Games on Demand is ftw.

Like my previous statment, a game disc will inevitably grow old. The XBOX will inevitably wear it down. When you pay the extra on GoD, you are literally paying to have a game you like in mint condition on a whim. Whenever you want.

The real idea here is that a smart buyer with a game they REALLY like would get it on demand, that way they can have it whenever it pleases them.

Like myself, I am contemplating using GoD for Assassin's Creed. I love that game, I would love having it a permanent part of my collection. Using GoD I am simply paying for the right to have it forever, whenever the feeling hits I can play/redownload-play.

[QUOTE="hillelslovak"]When I could buy Assassin's Creed and Bioshock on amazon for less money than one of them on demand, then it's worthless.phynixblack

Do you work for Mirosoft?! Seriously. I get used games, then install them onto my hard drive. I've had the same copy of Mass Effect since it released, and it's still in perfect condition. Games get worn when people don't take care of them. And while you're redownloading your copy, I'll simply put the disc in and be playing for hours while you're still waiting. AND I got my opy for 10 buks, and it's in perfect condition......

Like pretty much everyone else who has posted, I won't be buying off Games on Demand. The only way I would opt for a digital copy over a physical one is if was substantially cheaper.

However as phixional_b3ar pointed out, it's easier to start high and then lower your prices than to start low and raise them. So as the vast majority of people posting about this feel that the price is too high, microsoft may eventually lower their prices. Although saying that they haven't done so with their ridiculously overpriced HDDs.

[QUOTE="basia77"][QUOTE="orb_03_2006"] actually, no. if you wanna be technical, Games on Demand will guarantee the best condition of any game you will ever buy in your life. because if you have an actual copy, it can get scratches/damages. and GoD games will not. and you can still download it again for free if your HDD breaks.phynixblack

I check the discs they give before i buy them.

Except that this makes no sense. Because you're not able to trade in or sell your old games, you will have less money to spend on games. You seem like you're desperately trying to come up with positives for GoD. Do you work for microsoft or something or are you just special?

Guys im telling you microsoft is setting up to go all-digital. You wont be able to get your games any other way and stores like gamestop will go away because there will be no games to buy, sell, trade...

I got a nice physical copy of Duke Nukem 3D from when it was released for the first time, on pc. And it still works. And back then, I didnt even take as much care as I do now on game disks. So Ill stick to hard copies, makes for being a collector more fun. And its easier and more stable, because you never know when live or something is having problems or if your internet service is down, or, or, or... So hard copy for me :)

What are your thoughts on Games on Demand?

pete_merlin
I prefer buying a case with a game inside too lol, but sometimes i cant find a game i want to buy anymore here in europe, we dont have that awesome system like in the states with renting games and all that stuff, so some products might not be listed on game sites or might never even see the day of light, so im glad if i still get the chance to get them XD It would certainly would not damage any1 if it was up there, and its also better for the environment XD
