Why is racism so prevalent on XBL?

Your logic is completely flawed. I am not "lumping" white people into the category of "racist". I am just saying many white people are racist. It would seem so seeing how so many people on this thread have stories of white people using the N word. I have also heard many generalizations about other races made by white people. I'm sorry that you are not able to understand that 'many' does not equal 'majority'. Let me explain. There are roughly 300 million people in the U.S. If, say for example, 1 million were racist. That would be a lot of people. One million people is 'many' people. However, it is by no means a 'majority'. The words are different, go read a dictionary.

You are using anectodal evidence from an internet message board and turning it into "many white people are racists." Honestly, this really makes me sad, when somebody is being racist and doesn't even realise it.

The website Dictionary.com describes racism as: "a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others". I am so very sorry that your brain is not not capable of differntiating between saying "In my experience, I personally have met many white people who are also racists" and saying "all white people are racists".

I do not believe that being racist is an inherient trait among all white people;, THAT would be racist. What I am trying to say is that in my experience throguh Xbox Live and through real-life social interactions, I have heard a good number of white people use the term n****r, or make some sort of generalization about all black people. I believe those individuals were racist. I have met a good number of those individuals, although the MAJORITY of white people I have ever met are NOT like that. I have also met many white people who enjoy video games. I have also met many white people that enjoy Seinfeld. Are those racist statements? I hardly think so.

It's not an issue of racism, it's an issue of teenage kids who think they are cool trash talking older guys. That's what it really is, so it's an unfair generalization to say that somehow the xbox community is racist. For the record, there is no such thing as "reverse racism", it's racism no matter which race you may be disrespecting. To say it's reverse racism is an oxymoron. As for your assumption that white people are the only one's doing the racist talk, that's also a gross generalization. I get called dirty gringo and cracker on a regular basis when playing halo especially. I'm tired of the assumption that it's only whites who are somehow racist. It's bigots who are racist, that's it. It's a lack of education, and in most cases, it's a 13 year old kid who is shooting his mouth off because his parents aren't around and he knows that the 25 year old listening to him spout off on xbox live can't do anything about it. So my recommendation is to simply mute the individual, makes the game that much better.

No matter how you slice it, you can't change the meaning of the word and it isn't a term of endearment. Yes, black people can be racist and we of all people should know better. But it's funny how when black people experience racism she should be a man and deal with it but when a white person gets it we are reminded how wrong we are for being a racist.

We voted for Obama because he's black:
The fact you believe that the only reason anyone voted for him was because he's black says a lot about you. It couldn't possibly be because he went to Harvard Law, not because he was the senator of Illinois, not because he's intelligent speaks well (as we hear all the time) or was qualified. It's funny whenever a black person talks about racism, we're whining A Jewish or Homosexual talks about it, they standing up for themselves. We all have been persecuted and discriminated against. We all have organization to fight against it. It wasn't until Black people started fighting back that they found courage to stand and fight for themselves. Jews went through the holocaust and homosexuals have been beaten and living in secret but black people have gone through 400+ years of rap, murder, defamation, kidnapping, assault, discrimination, persecution, lies, torture, mental abuse physical abuse, extermination and degradation to name a few. When ether of you go through that and more for 400+ years, then you can start to talk about who's whining.

That's why I don't talk to people on-line/mute and report the persons:
I've noticed when people act differently. I communicate using text back and forth and it's all good. We talk noise even swear. Once they know I'm black, it's N* this and I'mma beet his monkey @$$, blah, blah, blah. I don't respond to it. I stop talking, beat 'em, let then know they got beat by a brother, report 'em and move on. Mark then as a racist, flag them so you don't have to play with them. Tell other players about them. What else are you going to do? Jump through the TVand Whoop 'em? ( would be nice but TV isn't that advanced yet).

Bottom line, it's not right and you shouldn't take it if you don't want to.

I'm Haitian and puerto rican so I encourage any rascist %$#@ to look up my gamertag and join my party and start thay %$#@, b/c personally I don't just sit there and hope they stop, b/c I'm the type of person that'll beat you in the game and bust your face open in real life. The colour of someones skin shouldnt matter imo, everyone is equal and should get the same amount of respect.

Im usually very nice on xboxlive and respectful, unless someone is being racist, then that really upsets me and i have to tell the idiot racists whats on my mind.

There is no room for racism in the world imo, its still very much around and that honestly ticks me off. For the world to move forward we must get past this whole racism thing.

As for racism on xboxlive, i think people feel "tough" online, because saying racist things wont get them punched in the face or beat up.
