It's interesting you say that. On this forum, there have been a lot of recent threads making predictions on how good unreleased games will be. There's really no good way to answer this question. And "beat" it how? Online popularity? Sales? Critical reception?

Gears 2 might initially beat Halo 3 in online numbers, just as the first Gears beat Halo 2. Ultimately, Gears lacked the staying power of Halo and Call of Duty, so who knows in the long run.

Yeah, Gears 2 will probably beat Halo in sales. Every hyped game beats every last hyped game.

Gears of War and Halo 3 are both running a 94 on Metacritic. That's a very high score for Gears 2 to beat, so that's really up in the air.

50 cent Bulletproof is better than Halo 3, so I don't think Gears to will have much trouble beating out Halo 3.

What a thoughtful, reasoned analysis. :roll: That 50 Cent game is running a 6.0 on GameSpot, while Halo 3 has an 8.9. Why don't you fill us in on whatever startling revelations you've come across, since you seem to know something that the gaming population in general does not.

I'm hoping for a good game that isnt vastly overrated like Halo 2 and 3.

Im getting gears of war 2 and am expecting it to be an amazing game however it is not going to replace halo 3. gameproman9000

The ONLY good thing about Halo 3 was the story mode that took 5 minutes to beat.

Instead of doing more with the story, enhancing any graphics, or doing anything else that does any benefit to this horrible installment, they add "Record footage that no one cares about." What a waste of programming.

Gears 2 is adding more footage, adding more features, doing more with the graphics, doing everything better.

Let us all not forget the best thing of all... no little kiddies dancing around like chickens with their heads cut off with a "Jump" button.

I often point out that when people talk about "Halo fanboys," you don't actually run into Halo fanboys very often. You do run into people who rabidly hate Halo, and love to express their ridiculous reasons for it at any opportunity.

If you didn't like the way the story played out, that's fine, but to say that the game should not have cutscenes is pretty ridiculous.

Almost every shooter for over a decade has had a jump button. Have you actually played any shooters besides Gears and Halo? You just criticized 90% of the games in this genre.

By quality, it all comes down to opinion. For me I doubt it. Gear 1 wasnt even as good as Halo 2.

By most played on live, sure it will for a while. It the new kid on the block. We'll have to see if it stays on top though.

I love it how when the word Halo is mentioned the anti-halo fanboys sprout out and bash on the game. Honestly, I'm really looking forward to Gears 2 and I think it would be a huge success, but please there is no reason to bash on Halo, or in this case Halo 3. To answer to TC's thread, in my opinion I think this game might have the potential of doing better then Halo 3, and also next time you should elaborate more on your topic.klusps

It may not top sales of Halo 3, people obsess about that game, I dont know why.

Halo 3 was hyped for what, a year? Didnt it sell about 7m copies?

Gears 2 will sell millions, almost guarenteed, but 7m? maybe not.

TimeShift is a better shooter than Halo 3.

So yes of course Gears 2 will be better than Halo 3. As it stands even Gears 1 is better than Halo 3.

I know for sure that i'll like it more than Halo 3, but I don't think it will beat Halo's sales.

Im sorry, well actually Im not, but Gears of War is horrible game. It utterly fails as a shooter from the campaign to the competitive modes. Gears of War 2 looks more of the same with an added feature and some new guns. Halo 3 has one of the biggest fanbases. I highly doubt Gears 2 will surpass it overall. Sure it will have a huge population on it at first, but give it 3-5 months and see if it will remain as strong. Think about this, why is everyone always making shooter verse threads against halo 3?

Nice to see all the Halo haters jump into this thread. Halo is a critically and commercially acclaimed franchise. Don't like it? Deal with it. :) No need to bash the game because you don't.

On topic. I couldn't tell you if it would do better or not. All I know is I'm getting this first day and will enjoy the hell out of it, while you worry if it passes Halo 3 or not.

I may rack up close on the charts but prolly won't make it.
It's a pretty violent video game and alot of parents would say no.
