Here is a story I saw on game informer, It talks about a blue ray add on. I am wanting to get a blue ray player because there is alot of movies that come out on blue ray that I would like and not on HDDVD, I have the HDDVD ad on for the 360 and love it, but I would love a blue ray player. I am even to a point of buying a PS3 just for the player. So how true does this seam, if it happens I would rather buy it than buy a PS3.

Its not impossible but it would have to be that blu ray clearly outright wins and MS has no other choice and can get the support. Blu Ray is a sony made technolagy and MS would need the rights to have it currently HDDVD is made by toshebia and MS so there going to back that as long as they can. (highly highly unlikely it will have a blu ray ever)

If blu-ray wins the the format war than MS will most likly make an add-on, but if the formats stay really close to each other, movie companies may start making films in both formats...then you can just stick with your HD-DVD drive....
I think what may happen is that both formats will succeed and film companies will be forced to support both...just like we have 3 different games consoles, we may have 2 different movie formats...

MS did not make HD-DVD....they only support it...they had to pay the HD-DVD makers to create a add-on player...
In the chance that blu-ray domminates, MS can just pay to have the rights to create a blu-ray add-on...I'm sure Sony would be more than happy to have another customer...

If I had to guess, right now I'd say that Bluray will likely end up winning the format war. When and if that happens definitively, MS will bite the bullet and make an add-on for their 360...assuming Sony will lease them the technology. I'm not sure how that works.

If you can afford the 360 and an HD-DVD drive, just get a PS3. Find some place that will take a trade-in towards a PS3 and let loose.

That would be a huge waste of money....he likes the 360 and add-on player, why would he trade it in and loose money on his purchase?
If anything he can just buy a PS3 and have both systems and have both players....
I myself am just going to wait to see what happens to the formats...if MS makes a blu-ray drive in the future I'll just buy that for $200...HD-DVD has enough movies titles for me right now while I wait to see what happens with the formats...

I agree, youll get 95% the same games with a bluray player and of course no more MS online tax. Its just logical.

How is it logical to loose money? He will trade in his Xbox 360 and HD-DVD addon for way less than what he paid for them....that is just stupid....
I'm not saying he shouldn't get a PS3, but trading in a 360 for like $150 bucks is just plain dumb....the trade-in prices are a rip-off.....

Pfft, more like 40% of the same games. PS3 has maybe 2-3 good games right now. He will lose money doing trade in for the PS3, and if he loves the X360 so, he should just buy a PS3. I rather wait and see, seeing as I don't have either player yet. It's almost assured that Blue Ray will win that format, but UMD had a lot of backing as well and ended up in the gutter. But I think Blue Ray has a good chance, way better than UMD.

Trade ins are total rip off.If he wants a cheap Blue Ray, he should just buy the PS3.

I think that HD DVD will be around for a while if not the winner in the war. Right now Warner Bros. is having problems with Blu-Ray because they do not have a program on the current players that the HD players do. The interactive feature used in the movies on HD DVD. So now Blu-Ray has to haul ass and get to making the program for their players real soon. And all of those people with the older players would have to wait and purchase the newer player. As a result THE MATRIX TRILOGY will be coming out on HD DVD first and then later for Blu-Ray. On May 22nd I will be forking over $100 to get the trilogy I have been dying to see in HD. It would be nice to have a Blu-Ray player add-on too. I would definitely buy it. I mean I would love to see Casino Royale in HD. But like I said I do not forsee this happening for a while.

I am by no means going to go trade in my 360. I really like it, and I really liek the HDDVD ad on. I am a former sony fan at that, but I will admit I like the 360 and the games it has. So I am keeping it, I was saying that I was thinking of buying a PS3 just for the Blue Ray player, nothing more.

If Blue Ray wins, MS only has to make a new add on for Blue Ray. Hell, they might even make an Hybrid and be done with it. That way they still support their HD users with the additional support for Blue Ray, if it does indeed win out.

I don't really feel that bad about my HD-DVD add-on, though...It was only $200, if it lasts a few years than I feel like I got my moneys worth...but if I were one of the goobers that paid $1000 for a blu-ray player that may not work properly with newer released titles....I would be pissed.....

Yeah I feel bad for the stand alone buyers when one format dies. they invested a lot of money into their systems, but $200 isn't nearly as bad.

Yeah but that would be one more reason to buy the cheeper 360 than the PS3.

I actually remember some event where Microsoft talked that if HD-DVD will lose popularity and moreless die out that no movies get made for it then they will probably make a Blue-Ray drive for it.

I just put it in my drive but apparantly the VGA cables upconvert DVDs, but I would just rather watch them on an SD TV. Like last night instead of watching Punch Drunk Love (go ahead and flame me but it is my favorite movie) on my HDTV I just watched it on SD because is looks soooooooooooooooooo bad on my HDTV. I tried watching LOTR over again after being all into HD DVD and I could not even watch it, I turned it off after 15 minutes. Hd dvd has kinda screwed me in that I think SD DVD looks terrible.

You know what it is....the upconversion of DVD by the HDTV looks worse than when the 360 does the upconversion....
It really does make a big difference, especially on LCD TVs....
I thought the same thing as you before I tried the VGA cable.

Is your tv 1080p or 720p, also is the VGA cable good for games, alot of people say that VGA and componet are the same basicly.

I have a 720p LCD and a 1080p LCD, both are Sony Bravia XBR.....VGA looks better on my specific units, the picture is much less jagged and much sharper...
Just be warned that on certain model TVs that the VGA can cause colors to looked washed out, this is only on older model TVs, though, and on newer TVs VGA looks just fine or better.

You can use the VGA cables on a computer monitor too which in some cases is better. I just bought mine today and watched King Kong on my LCD monitor and there were a lot of details I missed from HDTV.

Well I will give the VGA a try, I have a Samsung 40inch LCD, I bought it in September, it is not the first ones, but it is not the newer ones. I will give it a try, If it doesnt work, I probably will by a PS3, and If MS comes out with Blue Ray, guess I will be stuck with a PS3.

[QUOTE="Army_Veteran"]

Here is a sotry I saw on game informer, It talks about a blue ray add on.

I find this unlikely, only Universal is exclusively supporting HD-DVD while Columbia Pictures, MGM, Disney, Lionsgate, and 20th Century Fox are exclusively supporting Blu-Ray, the remaining studios supporting both. Also, the 3-to-1 software sells advantage for Blu-Ray in 2007 so far does not bode well for HD-DVD. I am pretty sure a Blu-Ray add-on is in the Xbox 360's future.

I can't see it happening with the 360,but microsoft's next console...absolutely

But you never know,blu-ray is crushing hd-dvd and Microsoft may have to release an external blu-ray drive as early as this year, but i'm sure Sony will Ripp Microsoft if they did that lol.Â
