I bought a new MS wireless headset and spent hours trying to work out how to use (didn't think it was that hard).

Then i found out it's not compatible with older controllers, and i had to fork out another AU$ 80 for a new controller to use AU$40 headset. What i want to know is why i had to find out the hard-way. After the fact and only from other users on the web.

MS should make this known to all, so as a consumer adding to MS coffers, and a Xbox 360 gamer, I can make a proper informed decision.

Instead of 40$ it cost $120 to use the wireless headset. :(

Dude...I have the wireless headset...it works with the Xbox 360...and has nothing to do with the controllers. I have the very first controllers to come out on Nov 22nd 2005.

You do not need a Controller for it to work with the Wireless Headset. Why is it called the Wireless Headset? I'm sure that gives a clear example.
