is there any way i can wirelessly connect to the internet with out using that $100 xbox wireless adapter?

you can get a wireless gaming adapter from some networking companies, but you'll only save like 20 bucks. i'd just get a used adapter from EB. thats what i did. it was 60 bucks

if you have a laptop wirelessly bridge your connection to your xbox. That is what i do.

This works just fine. It can be tricky to set up if your networking skills are lacking or you have none at all. If you have trouble just google it. There are tons of faqs about how to do it.
