XBL should be free of charge

in this day and age you really get what you pay for.

How could a service like LIVe be as good if it were free compared to charging a small fee?

Microsoft would have to cut corners, and do things half assed.

One of the many reasons i decided to get a 360 was i knew that LIVE would be maintained well and offer a great online experience compared to its competitor.

Im more than happy with how it is and frankly fee its very cheap for what it offers!

The thing is... gaming isn't cheap. If you don't think you can pony up the $50 a year.... then maybe you shouldn't be gaming on current gen consoles at all....ZOnikJJ

You know what? You're right, xbl should be free, everything should be free. Why should anyone have to work, or pay for the things they want?

I don't think the Gold service should be free, but I think things should be set up a little differently in regards to what Silver offers and what Gold offers; for example, Silver should allow online gaming, but without voice communication; downloads, but at half the transfer rate; no leaderboards in any game; that sort of thing. It rubs me the wrong way to have to pay to host a multiplayer game on my own hardware, for example.OremLK

You hit the nail on the head. If they want us to pay MS should use some of that money to pony up for some dedicated servers. Paying to host on your hardware is a major ripoff. As for free being a bad idea look at batellfield 2 and 2042. Much better online experience than live IMO with no crappy 16 player limit.

Xbox live is not just '5 bucks a month'. You need to pay for the broadband fees and the wireless adapter. Microsoft have no excuse not including a wireless adapter in their premium bundles.

I think they should make Xbox live payable through the month, ie not charging 35 pounds a year but charging by the month so it is more managable to pay for.

This is what I'm saying. I'm tired of paying for cake, because it's not just cake you're paying for. You have to pay frosting fees and decoration fees, nevermind that cake makers expect me to pay for a knife, a fork and a plate. Sony offers free online service on the PuddingStation 3, so there's no excuse and they even give you a spoon too. Now is the time for Microsoft to make cake free, or at least make it more manageable by having the option to pay per slice of cake.blue_tape

The Playstation Three dosen't offer the same type of Online service, but hey if you want free service get the PS3 and stop complaining. It's not like microsoft is gonna make it free because a couple of people are whining about it on some forum.

I agree completely! If it was like PSN then any individual game they can charge you to play online if they so choose to and it would be laggy and just ridiculously stupid.

That is a killer statement, but will it happen? Not a chance. Millions of people are already paying for this service, so i think MS has a niche there that the feel doesnt need to change. If gold memberships started dying off in considerable numbers, then they would do something about it. But im sure in the forseeable future none of the the statements mentioned in that link will be integrated to XBL. Sad but probably true....IMO
